Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
I made my whipped shea butter ya'll and it came out great. I can't wait to twist my hair up tonight and see how it comes out tomorrow. Today I am rocking the same old flat twist out. Nothing new...Im hoping to get more creative as my edges continue to thicken back up! Anyway, I'll be back tomorrow with a whipped shea butter review and recipe Adios!

Hi AfricanLatina!
It might be a good idea to try Amla as it strengthens the roots of the hair. Henna does it's own thing aiding growth by coating and strengthening the hair from the strands and Cassia has that same effect (and no wonder since they are both from the same family of plants) but Amla will give those roots the strength they need to grow long. Congratulations on your homebirth...it's a beautiful experience. My last two children were born at home and my only regret is that the other 4 didnt have the same privilege :-). Peppermint EO is another goodie for growth, but Amla is definitely a treat of a treatment that you may want to look into and with all things involving ourselves and our families, husbands, children is remember to have patience...we constantly go from stage to stage in this life and the only constant thing is change

Hi there,
I have heard of that little town in GA:-)
but if you're not having an easy time finding henna then there are a few places online that you can purchase.
www.butters-n-bars.com
www.mehndiskinart.com
and there may be a few other places even ebay sometimes has sellers that sell henna and generally on henna shipping is pretty fast.
best wishes and happy henna'ing

Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
oh forgot to mention there are many many many types of henna even some with herbals like Amla and Brahmi added to it.
Jamila '09 (aka body art quality) is the best to me in terms of conditoning with color, but other brands are good too, Khamsa (a yemeni henna) Karishma, Rajasthani, Egyptian henna. I mean it literally grows all over the place in India and Africa you just have to be sure that whatever brand it is that it is finely sifted (which usually mans that it can be used for body art as well). If you don't want color but conditioning then try Cassia or Jamila Henna for Hair,
hope this helps :-)

Thanks Butter Queen!! Helpful information. I finally found an indian grocer near me well not real close but I pass it on the way to the mall so it's not to far, but anyways. They had amla oil but after reading the bottle it's mostly mineral oil. I think amla will be a good route for me.
@Afrikan Latina...I love whipping and mixing things with my shea butter. it's good to know exactly what is in your products. i'm looking for a food processer I think I will stop by the goodwill too. Thanks for the idea.

Hi Shee-tacular!
I do carry the Amla Oil but as far as usage the powder is better because of the ingredients and I myself prefer to keep it basic...oohhh can't wait to tell ya'll about my new curlformers

@ALatina- can't wait to see the results of your new concoction.
@Butterqueen- you have a product line? Or just make your own for personal use. I'm interested in hearing about the curl formers

Thanks Butterqueen. I'm going to see if I can find it at my local Indian store and if not I'll order online. I'm definitely going to need my edges to catch up with the rest of my hair once it starts coming in good.

You're very welcome my dear. I wasn't certain I'd find one but I actually found 2 so I was so excited. Not that mixers are super expensive anyway but the extra money I saved can go towards some more HENNA or AMLA as butterqueen recommended.
Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
Its been a slow day...Hubbys sick so of course he's acting like a little baby lol. I'll be back tomorrow with pics and results. I actually retwisted hubbys locs with my new whipped shea butter and I'll take a picture of those as well to see how they look in the morning once we take the clips off.
Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
My hair today is in the same old flat twist out under a satin scarf. I was going to henna yesterday but hubby is still not feeling well and I didn't want to have to deal with the henna, hubby, and baby. I'll definitely be hennaing tomorrow. I'll be back later to post pics of my whipped shea pudding and my hair when I took the twists out oh and a few pics of hubbys locs too.

Oooh what shine you have . What did you mix with your shea?
Also, if you decide to use amla and do not have time to make paste and let it sit. Many on lhcf.com make teas with it and spritz it on their hair. They also mix it with their conditioners.

Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
I'm going to go ahead and mix my henna tonight to apply tomorrow.
Chrslvsbks...Yes I love the shine. I mixed my shea butter with coconut oil, honey, almond oil, and tea tree oil. I'm going to try another blend next time just because I like to experiement but it'll be a while since I got about 12oz(I think). Two of those jars full basically. So if I don't give the other one away I won't be mixing any for a while.

Just looking at the blogs on hair loss during pregnancy. I have 3 kids 15, 9, 5. With my first 2 (boys) my hair grew like crazy and was really thick and grew to my shoulders, people used to think I had a really BOMB weave..lol. When i had my daughter my hair shed all over. It became really thin and weak and has been that way since and my daughter is now 5. This was one of my reasons for going natural so that I could gain back that thickness I once had. I'm 7 months into my transition and going stroing.
Hey does anyone have a product that is a really good daily moisturizer? I have 4B/C hair that is very dry.

ALatina your hair looks great after the twist out! It's kinda fun to mix things up in the kitchen with the shea butter huh? Where do you get your almond oil from? Whole Foods?
Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
@Jamaica: Thanks dear. Its the Now Brand and I got it from GNC.
nyonda: Good luck with getting your hair back to that luscious healthy state. I'm working on it too. Thankfully my hair is growing back already and shedding less and less everyday. I'll get back to you on the daily moisturizer. I'm still going through trial and error on what my tresses like.

Hair Progress: Still VERY thin at my temples but definitely growing back so I'm happy about that.
I'm currently deep conditioning after rinsing out my henna and I'll probably be sleeping with it in til tomorrow. My mission is to figure out a cute do for my aunts retirement party on Friday. Any suggestions are welcome.

Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
I got up early this morning to rinse my conditioner out. I then applied my Elasta QP H-Two leave in conditioner followed by coconut oil and then sealed with my whipped shea butter. I LOVE THIS WHIPPED SHEA BUTTER! I wish I had known about this a long time ago! My hair is super soft and shedding less each day. I'm happy about that to say the least. I just went ahead and put in some flat twists that I'll be wearing under a scarf and a hat today since I'll be running around town trying to get things done since we'll be out of town until Sunday. Adios chicas!
