Hair Growth Shake
Hey, girls.
Not sure what the rules are for posting other forum threads here, but I thought you'd want to see this.
I lurk LHCF and I found this thread a couple of months ago about a shake for hair growth...
http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=288413
I have been doing this since August and my results are crazy. I tweaked the formula she has here to meet my own needs, and I'm sure you ladies would be able to do so as well. This is literally a 400 page thread -- there is so much info in here your head will spin.
But read it and see if you think it'd work for you. I am going to dig around and see if I have some comparison pics.

Yes, I am still drinking it and I have been for almost 3 months.
Here's my recipe:
8oz of soy milk (I use regular)
1 raw egg
2 tablespoons wheat germ
1 tablespoon light chocolate syrup (for taste, you can also use fruit or fruit juice)
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (for taste)
Some days I add my breakfast yogurt to the mix, too. Just makes it thicker.
I took out the wheat germ oil because my stomach did not like it. This is the wheat germ I use, you can get this at the grocery store for $3.99. I've been using the same bag since August.

Everyone in the thread seems to have their own mix. The key ingredients seem to be the wheat germ and the egg. Some people use protein powder or egg whites in the mix. I mix this in a blender and can't even taste the egg.
This has become my breakfast because you can't eat anything or drink anything but water for 2 hours after you drink the shake (for maximum effect). I was never a breakfast eater so this is a benefit. Also, my skin has cleared up and I have more energy. My hair has grown about two inches since then as well.

@courtie...Ok, I'm going to get the ingredients today so I can start drinking it too. Thank you.
By the way, I loved how your hair came out from your Henna treatment. I will be emailing you when I get ready to do mine because you process and mixtured seemed really simply and your hair came out gorgeous.

Thank you for the compliments, girl!
I will help in any way I can.
And I will be checking with you when I finally decide to try bantu knots again. Yours came out shiny and beautiful, mine looked like who did it and why. I want it to work, but I can't figure it out.

Re: Hair Growth Shake
Here's some comparison pics.
This pic was taken on June 23, one year to the day from my BC.
Hair was barely collarbone length stretched.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
This next pic was taken two weeks after I started the shake, around the 20th of August. Hair here is about 1/2 inch past collarbone stretched.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I just took this one just now.
Hair is almost 2" past collarbone stretched. As you can see, from June to August I had about 1/2" growth, from August to November I have nearly 1 1/2" growth. No other changes to the routine.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] (My fingers are holding the end of the hair, it extends to about where my middle finger is in the pic)

Re: Hair Growth Shake
@courtie...Ok, I am totally convinced. The minute I tear myself away from this forum, shower and get dressed I will be at the market getting my wheat germ, soy and juice. I'm gonna add juice for taste. Does the wheat germ make it taste gritty? Or is it smooth?

No, the wheat germ does give it some texture. The best way I can describe it is when you get to the bottom you feel like you're drinking the last of your cereal. You know, like the little particles at the bottom of your cereal bowl? Like that. It's not too bad. Honestly I drink the whole thing in three gulps and then drink a bottle of water.
They've had good results with orange juice, carrot juice, etc. for flavor.

Re: Hair Growth Shake
Is raw egg safe to drink if your breastfeeding? Anyone know?
I'm answering my own question. It probably isn't since raw eggs can contain salmonella.

I wouldn't because of the salmonella factor, but I know that people have had good results using protein powder, like the kind bodybuilders use. That stuff is pretty cheap and you can get it anywhere. My boyfriend drinks it and he bought a HUUUUUGGGGE canister for like $11 at Walmart. That should be okay for the baby.
I'd ask the doc just to be sure.

@courtie..ok girl, I'm back from the store and I could not find Wheat Germ at the two stores I went to. I think I will go to Whole Foods later on to get it. I know they should carry it there.

Re: Hair Growth Shake
@loveself247 - I'm sure they will have it at Whole Foods.
I started seeing results after two weeks, even though some people said it took months.
You're transitioning, so you'll be able to see exactly how much new growth you are getting. It made my hair shinier, too.

Re: Hair Growth Shake
Y'all are some brave souls! But u know how I am...willing to try almost anything that promises thicker, stronger hair. I'm gonna continue to take my green vibrance drink for a few months and see how it treats me. If it proves to be a waste, I'll be referring back to this thread!! Thanks for the heads up!!
Re: Hair Growth Shake
@CurlyNikki - yeah, that first sip was a leap of faith. But I'm like you -- I need my hair as big as possible!
@msqueenie -- girl, that baby is so cute!

Re: Hair Growth Shake
awww - thanks guys! I would post a recent pic of her but it has nothing to do with the "hair growth shake" portion of this forum =)
Maybe I'll do something cool with her curly hair and use that as a reason to post her pic. She doesn't have much but it's definitely curly and beautiful!
