Krazy Coils
Hello Everyone,
I lurked on the BNB thread and enjoyed reading about everyone's hair journey. I felt a little shy about sharing my own hair journey but here goes.
I got my first relaxer at the age of 12. I asked my mom for one because I hated getting my hair pressed with the straightening comb. My journey with the relaxer continued for years with my hair dictating my lifestyle. I scheduled my workouts around my hair not wanting to sweat it out and don't even mention rain. I also spent endless hours at the salon. I can honestly say that I never had damaged relaxed hair. I wanted to be relaxer free since I was also coloring my hair at the same time.
I had no clue where to begin since the only people I knew who were natural wore locs or braids. I did not know any loose naturals. A friend of mine told me that she grew her hair out by flatironing her hair. So in February 2009 I received my last relaxer and began to get my hair flatironed to grow out my natural hair. I also began to do research and googled how to transition from relaxed to natural hair. I found the world of You Tube and saw all of these women with beautiful natural hair with gorgeous styles. I also found Curly Nikki's blog through google and I have been hooked ever since.
Through my research I found a lot of information that I did not know was out there. I read that flat ironin too often could alter my natural curl pattern. So I stopped the flat ironing and attempted some of the styles I had seen on other naturals. I initially planned to transition for a year but I could not deal with the two textures once I was no longer getting my hair flat ironed. So on September 8, 2009 I did my BC. A lot of people were shocked because I have never cut my hair that short. It was liberating for me and I am loving every minute of my natural jouney.
Its amazing watching my hair change and grow on this journey. I have now been fully natural for almost eight months. My eight month anniversary is May 8th! and I'm looking forward to many more.

Re: Krazy Coils,
I now know how important it is to take pictures of your hair along your hair journey. You may think your hair isn't growing or is growing too slow but pictures will prove that it is indeed growing. Here are a few pics of me right after my BC. I could only do wash n gos then:
This weekend I had a trim on Saturday and here's my wash n go now. My signature style is usally a braidout. This was my first wash n go since December 2009. Excuse the crazy look on my face

Re: Krazy Coils,
Hi KrzyKoils! You've had some magnificent growth. I found your story interesting. I had a great affair with relaxers with the exception of my early years and a few rough times at the nape in the winter. Your hair is beautiful though. Welcome to the forum!

Thank you. I just grew tired of relaxing and wanted a more versatile look.

Re: Krazy Coils,
Multi-quote (can only be done from your computer...doesnt work on my Crackberry)
click "multi-quote" on all of the comments you want to respond to....then at the bottom of the page click post reply....that's it.
Go to "profile" at the top of the screen, then click signature, put the link there and save it....there is a code you have to use get it like my signature but I havent figured out how to share it will others....TiaShauntee helped me with mine.

Re: Krazy Coils,
Last night I washed my hair because it was itching like crazy. I used Bee Mine's ayurvedic shampoo bar. Conditioned with Giovanni's SAS and began to plait my hair. While plaiting my hair I noticed that the right side is really shorter than the left side. I had my hair trimmed this past Saturday and it seems the stylist took off more hair than I thought she did.
The front and back are ok and pretty much the same as they were before the trim when I stretched them but the right side is definitely shorter. This was my first time going to this person and she kept trying to even up my right side with the left but I told her that the right side of my hair has always grown longer than the left side. Before the trim I was excited about getting a professional trim since she cut it curly and I didn't have to get it straightend but I think I may have to keep trimming it myself in the future.
Anywho I will post pictures when I get home later this evening.

Re: Krazy Coils,
Welcome Krazy Coils! I love the Screen name! It makes me feel happy inside LOL. I look forward to reading your thread. Can't wait to see the pics!
Re: Krazy Coils,
@missmoriahiscurly
Hey, thank you!
I kept seeing people with these really cool screen names and I was trying to think of something unique. My hair is really coily and the coils just seem to want to do their own thing and sometimes drive me crazy in a good way so that's where I got the idea from.

Hey Krazy Coils...I love your hair! I think we are "hair sisters", not necessarily twins, but close to it! ;-)

Re: Krazy Coils,
@ Lynnie
Thank you! I get the best definition on my braidouts when I do them on wet hair. I love the products I've tried from the KBN so far. I've tried the leave-in, the butter and the gel. The ingredients are really good and I will definitely repurchase. With the butter you only have to use a little because its really moisturizing. And it seems that she always seems to have some type of sale on the products or a special on the shipping.
