Hey Iri! Just stopped by to say HI and take a gander at the awesome growth you've had! A round of applause for you and Kendall!!
Re: its iri9109's nappiversary! kendall is officially 1!
soooo i think i found a way to do twists/twistouts on my hair...it has to be done on an old dry WnG, and then the twists wont unravel. i dont think i'll wear twists outside the house until their atleast full neck length while shrunken, but since its colder i really dont wanna wash my hair more than once a week so my WnG has to last from saturday/sunday all the way to the next friday....i prefer my own natural curl pattern to the twist out pattern, but i can get bigger hair with the twistout...i was gonna weave my hair back up next week, but since the semester is almost over and im not gonna really be going anywhere over break i think im gonna wait till january to put my weave back in...if its too cold out i can just throw on a hat or beanie when i go out until then.
i washed my hair last friday and then deep conditioned over night and did a wash and go on saturday...this is my hair on monday:
by wednesday and thursday its really frizzy and starts to look less cute lol so anyway yesterday i sprayed my dry WnG from the weekend with watever is in this spray bottle...i kinda forgot but im pretty sure aloe vera juice and gel is in there & i put my hair in chunky twists, let them dry for some hours and then took the twists out and stuck 2 bobby pins in there
twists:
twistout:
i had to run my fingers through and tweak it a lil bit...i also rubbed some proclaim argan oil in my handa and ran my hands over my hair
end result:
so the plan till jan is to to wash on friday...wear the same WnG from saturday to tuesday or wednesday and then put twists in and wear a twistout till friday.
i didnt use anything for hold...and for my WnG i just used aussie moist and castor oil...i might try a styler next time though
also since my hair is gonna be out for a month or so i wanna experiment with ayurveda...i wanted to wait until march, but i just have the itch now...im scared of henna but i will use the other powders and oils so today i'm hittin up the indian store near me...i have alot of products in my stash but i hope to use it all and by the summer have a simple mostly natural/organic and ayurvedic regi...i want my staple oils to be vatika and castor oil...maybe pure argan oil (camden grey got it 4 cheap)...and i cant forsake my beloved aussie moist but i wanna spike it with oils and powders...and when i run out of what i have i'll probably try YTcucumbers/carrots and maybe the tressemme naturals , i already use organic shampoo but i think i might start using an herbal one when i run out...and for DCs i'll stick to AO products mixed with ayurvedic products

Iri, your hair looks great--so healthy and shiny looking. If you haven't tried it, hibiscus tea works well. I buy the hibiscus flower petals and make a tea and use the liquid for my powders. You can add the tea to your condish too.

Re: its iri9109's nappiversary! kendall is officially 1!
i tried my ayurveda products tonight! i cant believe i goofed up on my 1st try...1.) i mixed the stuff in my bedroom...and didnt lay any paper down...i got conditioner and powder everywhere lol and i spilled like half a box of brahmi on my bed smh 2.) i tried to make the shikakai cowash from the link i posted earlier but i want to make a smaller batch & i was gonna mix 3 tablespoons of powder into like 1 cup and a half of condish (1 shikakai:1 brahmi:1 maka) and add oils...but i think i was so excited that all i could remember was 3 and i put three tablespoons of each instead of three table spoons total!!! so i had already used up the aussie moist i had left and i added some moisture maniac and i ended up having to use like half a bottle of that to make it creamy...i added vatika oil, castor oil and rosemary oil, and it wasnt runny but it wasnt super thick but too thick to go through the funnel and into the bottle i was gonna put it it so i just said forget it i'll use it as a paste...obviously i couldnt use it all so i froze the rest and i think its enough to use 3 or 4 times. now i dont want to do the cowash thing anymore, i'll just use the paste treatments with conditioner because i had good results. i dont know how long ur sposed to leave ayurvedic treatments in, but i left it in for about an hr....it rinsed out pretty well in the sink in my laundry room....i was hoping my hair wouldnt be dry or brittle afterwards and i was so scared, but it doesnt feel bad...it could be more moisturized, but its not dry...it feels resistant and strong like i could pull a rake thru it and not break any hairs lol...after i use up the pastes i have, i plan on trying new mixtures and hopefully i dont mess up next time...also i prepood with vatika b4hand for like 20 minutes but i know i shouldve probably left it on overnight, but i was so antsy...now im dcing with 3 min miracle, a little bit of vatika oil and honey.
with the paste in:
after i rinsed it out:

Your hair looks great! Ayurveda is the truth. I love it! I typically leave on the treatments for at least 30 minutes. Remember shikakai is a cleanser so ensure you use it with amla, brahmi or maka to combat dryness. Be ready for thick, strong hair in using the ayurveda regularly.
I purchased from ayurnaturalbeauty before. Her shipping is fast, and her prices are great! I actually won some Tropical Isles JBCO products from her last month through a FB contest.

Hi Iri,
I see that youand Kendall are having fun with the ayurvedics. I have been using henna and amla since I transitioned and I love them. After a while you'll get the methods and recipes down and it will not be as messy. Just make sure you keep a separate towel & tshirt for your treatments-everything else should clean up easily. How do you like the Proclaim Argan oil? I was thinking of getting some.

Hey Iri,
Your hair is looking gorgeous! I love the powders you're using. As Chrs mentioned its good to mix the Shikakai with amla or brahmi to prevent dryness. I've gotten back into my ayureveda treatments and try to do a paste once every two weeks.

i was excited to try henna, but now im scared...too many horror stories of curl loss...i have to get some amla though. i like the proclaim argan oil...it leaves my hair shiny and not to greasy and it tames frizz...but its cone based (but i havent had problems with build up or moisture loss)...the ingredients are basically the exact same as that expensive morrocan oil...i think in a few months i'll try some pure argan oil i saw on camden grey.
thanks! i adore yours too!sweetdrk1 wrote:You can definitely wear your twists out! I adore your curls! Absolutely to die for!
thanks! yeah i read that shikakai can be drying so i'll be sure to always mix it with something elsekrazy coils wrote:Hey Iri,

Iri, your results are fab! I always prepoo w/ oils overnight before the ayurveda treatments and do a good homemade moisture condish after. Never have dryness issues. Shakakai and Aritha are the ones you have to really watch out for in terms of the drying effect.

november 25th made it one year since my last relaxer & 8 months since i BC'd time really flies!
shrinkage sucks =/.
but i found a new way to preserve my curls at night thanks to ellepixie on lhcf aka denimpixie on youtube !
she also has a blog:
http://questfortheperfectcurl.wordpress.com/
anywho she posted about a way to "pinapple" short hair...and i tried it and fell in love because it stretches my hair a lil bit and preserves the curls so i dont have to cowash or rinse again the next day, just spritz it with my spraybottle concoction, shake, and go...and i dont have to go outside with wet hair!
