EMBRACING WHAT GOD GAVE ME.....THE NATURAL ME:)
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy to finally be here!!!! with my own thread!!!
Here's my hair story...
I was relaxed at 6 years old..i begged for it and all of my aunts were around to watch the transformation. I loved my hair...have always loved my hair....
Last year, my 7 year old daughter told me she didn't want any more of the "white stuff that burns"....MAJOR REVELATION for me...she had only been relaxed for a year. I'd seen her hair break off and I thought it was a natural process. I decided to stop relaxing her hair March of 2009. At the same time, my oldest daughter (9 yrs.) had a texturizer on her hair. There was absolutely NO REASON for her to have one but because her father's side of the family is a fan of ALL THINGS straight, I let the "lye" begin. When her sister decided to "buck the system..(me)" and go against relaxers, she wanted her hair to be curly as well. So BOTH girls began their transitions. The whole time, I was researching the best way to do this and I lucked upon CurlyNikki. My boss is a naturalista and she said CurlyNikki was her big secret. That was in June 2009 and I'm on this site EVERYDAY now!!! I finally joined the site in November and thru the research process for my own girls, I made the decision to embrace the God given "me" in December 2009. My last relaxer, which ended up burning my hair at the ends, was a blessing from God. I feel so assured with my decision and since I've stalked just about EVERY thread here, I know I'm making the right decision.
Since I work in coporate America, it's been a tough transition process. My director HATES weaves so I've had to transition "cold turkey". I tried to rock micros but that only lasted a month. My mom got married last weekend and I had a quick weave, that lasted two weeks and taking the weave down was one of the worst experiences EVER..glue was all over the place!!! so I've decided to do what works for the NOW. That would be bantu knots!! Since I'm growing my hari out from a short cut, I'm at 4 months post relaxer and my hair is long enuff to do the knots...PRAISE JESUS!
My reggie for the time being is to shampoo once a month (need to find one that doesn't feel like it's stripping my hair and leave it feeling like straw..suggestions are MORE than welcome!) I co-wash twice a week with HE TT or HE HH, I deep condition with Lustresilk, EVOO and EVCO. I'm interested in henna but I'm worried as to how my hair will react since I'm just 4 months in my transition. I want to BC everyday but I don't want to completely give my hubby a heart attack!!!
I'm glad to be here, I've learned so much from this site and all the curlies here! I'm soooooooo ready for this journey!!! LET'S GET IT IN!

Shampoo suggestions: Pre-poo with oil and then Suave Humectant. I love that stuff! There are usually samples in the walmart travel aisle. If you try it let us know how it works for you.

Yay!!! I'm so glad you decided to cruise down the curl street journal with us! You have a beautiful family!!! Your girls are too cute......they look like twins!
As for the shampoo, I like Karen's Body Beautiful Conditioning Shampoo. It doesnt leave my hair feeling stripped. Also, check out Kimmaytube's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1FQ79FD2VY&playnext_from=TL&videos=8GjzKuwnkvE
She shows how she washes and detangles her hair. She uses this buffering technique that keeps your hair from feeling stripped. I've been doing it for about a month now and I LOVE IT!! It may even help me use up all the shampoos I tried and didnt really like.
So how long do you plan to transition? Also, to change the title of your thread, click post replay at the bottom of the screen when you post a comment instead of using the "quick replay" box. If you scroll down about half way the page, you will see where you can change the title. Hope this helps!!
PS - Glad I didnt have to hunt you down

Pre-poo: http://tiashauntee.blogspot.com/2009/12/pre-poo.html
That is all the info I have about pre-pooing. I currently pre-poo with a mix of Castor oil and Jasmine oil, that combination is leaving my hair so soft.

giiiiiiirl dont get me started w/recommending products **pookie itch** cuz i dont want you to end up like me!! my favorite poo is kbb condish poo though; and i always pre-poo when i feel my hair is gettin dry! these ladies give EXCELLENT advice around here.

welcome. i echo the pre-poo recommendation. also you can use kimmaytube's buffering technique where you add conditioner to your hair after shampooing--but before rinsing. you just squeeze the excess shampoo lather, add conditioner and then rinse.

"I'm in this fight and I'm swinging and my arms are getting tired
I'm trying to beat this emptiness but I'm running out of time
I'm sinking in the sand and I can't barely stand
I'm lost in this dream, I need you to hold me
I'm scared of lonely" -Beyonce "Scared of Lonely"
Hey curlies!!! I'm singing this song tonight at this club here in Dallas so I decided to post the lyrics...the song is actually pretty nice..
Anyway, today has been busy. Work and it's date night for me and husby!!!
I co-washed last night with HE TT and added EVOO. I did bantu knots with Miss Jessie's Curly Creme and took them down this morning. I also did the same thing with my oldest daughter's hair and she's rocking a BKO today as well..I'll post pics later tonight!! Have a beautiful and CURLY day ladies!!!

Your daughters hair turned out so cute!!!
I've given up on trying to read everyone's thread everyday...especially with the recent "MOVE IN SPECIAL". I just catch up on them as I come across them.
