Did I make the right decision??
So I finally did it!
I bought my first pack of henna from http://www.hennasooq.com/ ($25.75 for 300 grams) and I must say I'm a little bit more nervous than I expected to be. I mean, I've read all 56 pages of the henna-for-hair booklet sooo many times but i gotta tell you, pushing the confirm button took A LOT of willpower. I mean, I've been looking at forums from people who have gotten ripped off from online places or got garbage henna and I'm just a teensy bit afraid.
I'm also pretty young and I just want to make sure that this (pretty much) permanent decision doesn't get messed up SO... if anyone could answer any of these questions it would do wonders for my conscience
~ Is this a good brand/website?
~ Have you tried this brand before (I think it's Jamila) and how did it turn out for you?
~ How long was the shipping wait and was it worth it?
Thanks sooo much to anyone who can help me with my questions!!
* BTW CurlyNikki ILY for making this website! I've always been natural, but your website gave me the tools and the confidence to love the awesome hair God gave me

I've heard nothing but good things about hennasooq. Here is a thread from lhcf about it. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=298413&highlight=hennasooq

I recently ordered some Jamila henna and it was great. This was my first time buying henna, but I could tell it was good quality. You'll see when you get it. It's the finest powder I've ever seen.

I ordered from another company so I can't say.

I ordered from http://www.ayurnaturalbeauty.com/. If you ever need to reorder you can get it much cheaper and her shipping prices are super low.
Re: Did I make the right decision??
Wow, the prices are supergreat. I just might lol.
I was thinking of finding an Indian supply store around my area though because I'm not a big fan of online shopping

Re: Did I make the right decision??
I get mine at a local Asian shop. It is Jamila and it is $1.59 for a 100G box. My hair has not had any ill effects from using local henna. There are no sticks in it on leaves or whatever. I think it is worth it for you to hunt down a local store!
Re: Did I make the right decision??
Wow, thanks!
I will definitely be looking around for any natural Asian/Indian stores. If anyone lives in Broward County, Florida and knows of a good place let me know!

I live in Sunrise so a lot of these places are a good drive away... Except for the Specialty Brands store. What did you type into google?

Re: Did I make the right decision??
I mixed up a batch of henna yesterday and froze it. I'm hennaing next weekend and wanted to see if there was a difference with the frozen henna mix with dye release versus a regular mix. I have a bunch of boxes of Jamila henna that I ordered from Butters-N-Bars during the $4.99 per box special that ended recently. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I have been doing a weekly treatment of 2 tablespoons each of Amla and Brahmi mixed with hot water, left to sit for 10-15 minutes, applied to my freshly washed hair with coconut oil on it. I have been doing this in between hennaing to make my strands stronger. That Bigen and Miss Clairol hair color really did some damage to my natural hair. I have been natural since 2002, but first wore braids for years and then switched to wigs. I colored in between braiding and wigs, but with the wigs I only had to color 2 times a year since no one would see the grays anyway. I had to color every 4-6 weeks since September last year when I decided to wear my hair out to cover my grays. Coloring my hair with those PPD's was like getting a relaxer all over again. The chemical really thinned out some of my hair in certain parts of my head.
Thank God for the Henna and Hesh Ayurvedic powders to repair the damage to my hair. I was going to cut it off, but the powders are really helping to thicken back the badly damaged areas. I have some of my co-workers looking for the Kalpi Tone and Maka in their neighborhoods. If they can't find it, I will just order it online because the Kalpi Tone has all the powders in one box and the Maka is supposed to be the cure for alopecia. My Mom and one of my co-workers would love that for their balding areas from relaxer damage. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Did I make the right decision??
Hmmm, I was thinking of coloring my hair for college but I guess not now LOL. Not with any artificial dyes anyway.. So with the henna's red stain and the almas brown is your hair like burgandyish? I'm curious because I did a couple honey treatments and now my hair is dark brown not it's natural black.
And also I hear that henna with lemon juice makes your some peoples hair dry. Has this ever happened to you and if so, how did you fix it?

Re: Did I make the right decision??
My hair was very black to begin with so the only color that was visible when I hennaed was coppery grays. I then applied the indigo to get rid of that so I have a soft black color. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I use amla in place of lemon juice, or orange juice. When I first hennaed I just used lemon juice and no water and my hair was very dry. My scalp was also very itchy for days. After my second wash, that all went a way. I will let you know the result of my hennaing by next weekend. I mixed 100 grams/3.5 ozs. of Jamila Summer Crop 2009, 2 tablespoons of amla, 1 tablespoon of Brahmi, 1/4 tablespoon of ginger and 1/4 tablespoon of cloves to camouflage the scent. I added spring water stirred the mix, covered it was plastic wrap and let it sit in a warm spot for 12 hours. Then placed in the freezer. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Did I make the right decision??
There are a lot of Ayurvedic powders and oils out there for the hair and skin. I personally prefer powders because they are very similar to henna treatments.
I found the Amla and Brahmi powders at my local Indian store for $1.99 per box (tax included). [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Read about more Ayurvedic powders on the Hesh Pharma website ...

Hesh Brahmi Powder is
Ayurveda's most potent hair vitalizer.
Brahmi powder is a remedy for people with chronic hair problems. Brahmi
can make hair dark, dense, and lustrous. It strengthens hair roots, thus
controlling hair thinning and hair loss. Regular use control premature
graying and massaging it into the scalp clears dandruff.
Hesh Brahmi Powder has the following advantages:
- Cools the scalp and induces sound sleep
- Controls dandruff
- Makes hair long, dark, dense & lustrous

Have a good night. I've been researching hair sites and You Tube videos on natural hair. My hair probably would have been long like Sera's in that video if I had knowledge about Ayurvedic products years ago. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Did I make the right decision??
Ahhh! I couldn't wait!
I bought 300 grams from the Indian Store across from my house and I'm about to do the henna tonight It's Nupur Henna and it says its 100% natural (that's one of the only things I can read on the package lol) and I really, really hope it is. Uhh, on the back it says 100% natural mehndi, amla, brahmi (yay!) and Bhringraj so I'm guessing its a sort of mix... Anywho, the madre says that I should do a test run first so I'm only gonna use 100 grams and just test it on the back of my hair. I'll try to post pictures as I'm doing it but I think the main thing I'm going to be focused on is not getting the stuff all over the walls lol.
Soo ya I'm really excited and now I'm off to look for a good henna recipe!

Re: Did I make the right decision??
thanks! lol I had to calm my excitement down once I realized that the henna needs to soak for a day but I will try with the pictures.
My recipe was:
300 grams of the henna, amla, brahmi, bhringraj mix
freshly squeezed orange juice (6/7 oranges?)
some cinnamon powder
water (because i ran out of oranges lol)
I hope it turns out okay. I sifted the henna (which was a mistake because I got really sneezy and irritated) and just added the wet stuff after. It looks like liquid poop (lol) but at least its the consistency of yogurt and looks like all the other batches I've seen. Soo... all that's left to do now is wait I suppose
