Re: Swoodward, working on retaining my growth - still working it out
Love the AWS story. It is so true in so many of us. The men may not deal with it as much, you know what, they do. That's why so many of these boys are walking around sagging skinny jeans. It looks ridiculous! Anyway, I know I had it continue to battle the urges to want to look like someone else. Thanks for sharing! It made me laugh.

Hey Chrs, I know - they just don't seem to take as seriously as the girls do...
Have I told you how much I love your avi today?

Stopping by to say hi!!
So how did the Henna go? I keep hearing about how great it is for hair, but I'm paranoid about trying anything that will change the color of my hair (it took me 24 years just to get hi-lights). LOL

Hi MsChef!
saggy skinny jeans? That reminds me of a Jethro type I saw the other day. Black people have spent decades trying to get away from the image this kid was projecting. I was howling!
He wore his jeans low and rolled them up at the ankles to flood level - yikes!
Still, that's nothing compared to what I see the girls doing...

Hey Muz - my hair is still in twists now and I can't decide where to post my latest hair experiment. I'll probably post tomorrow. I think it went really well!
Henna will not change the color of your hair if it is very dark, it will only give you highlights and then only in the sun.
I get streaks because of have a good chunk of grey. My daughter has super thick hair like yours and I gave her a henna gloss yesterday. No striking color change but it is different somehow. Her hair is very soft and feels very strong. I used CulyNikki's recipe.
You may really like it but you can strand test to get a feel before committing. If this were my my first henna, I would definitely use CN's method.

Hey Swood,
Stopping thru to say hi and check for henna pics. My henna treatment yesterday went extremely well. My hair color looks fantastic! It's black, black. A little dark for me but it looks good IMO. No pics . My camera went out this am when I was trying to take pics in the car.
I'll check back on you later....

While my hair was dry my daughter's was soft as ever I guess it just dependsswoodward wrote:Curly_Aquarius wrote:Hey, I'm so happy you told me about that book, now where do I find this book? I am sorry the A/C is cramping your style! I went to the beach today and let say I don't like salt water in my curls. So we were doing the same thing today super moisturizing our curls today!
The age of aquarius...
I have heard salt water is great for curls. I have yet to see because I have never been to the beach as a natural.
I posted on your page - start with Amazon.com. Here's a link. My next purchase will be "Thank God I am Natural" and "The Knotty Truth" I heard Kimmay from Youtube is writing one too.

sorry ladies, i slept exactly one hour last night. when I started to doze back off, i awoke up to the site of my oldest boy cat and my oldest girl cat in a compromising position - AND next to ME ON MY BED.
I beat the crap out of them but could't sleep and had to leave at 6:30 this morning. i gotta get some sleep - will be back tomorrow.

Your cats haven't been spayde/neutered? I'm assuming that's the compromising position. And that was rather disrespectful of them! (but I did laugh when I read it, sorry. LOL!)
Re: Swoodward, working on retaining my growth - still working it out

Re: Swoodward, working on retaining my growth - still working it out
This is going to be a long one so I apologize in advance!
Well it's Wednesday and it's been 3 days since i hennaed and I am just getting around to posting pics. I am going to follow up on this post because I spent the day on beautifying my hair, wore it out one day and twisted it right back up. I'll take it out Thursday am and take another set of pics then.
On Saturday, I mixed my about 150 grams of henna ( a pack and half) - I used chamomile tea (2 bags in 20 oz) and the juice of half a lemon. I only used enough fluid in the henna to get the consistency of yogurt. I covered and let sit overnight.
Then Sunday I prepoo'd with a combo of Burts Bee's prepoo treatment and aloe vera gel - .
I left that in for about an hour and shampoo'd with my med shampoo and then followed with a co-wash with a cheapie condish (White Rain). I conditioned with a mix of DevaCurl Moisture One and Yes to Cucumbers so that I could detangle. I was very interested in completely detangling because my last henna had really loosened the curl in the front of my hair (really detangled) and had actually increased the frizz in the rest of my hair (lazily detangled.) I wondered if I completely detangled and smoothed the henna in, would I get a different result than just throwing in on.
Here's a pic of my detangled hair. Personally, I thought it looked like my tangled hair but what the hey.
I could see that my hair just over the ears has less curl - so I was really getting excited about the experiment. I air dried and proceeded to get my henna on.
Here's a pic of my mix:
I took a nap, puttered around and left the mix in for about 8 hours. I was really excited so I mixed a henna gloss using CurlyNikki's recipe and put it in my daughter's hair! (Not allowed to post her pics on the nappy hair sites because only straight hair is pretty- sorry! )
To remove the henna from my hair I dunked in the tub, then showered out the rest and deep conditioned with AOHR mixed with the last of my Kiehl's Olive Oil Repairative pak - I am so out of this and I am so unhappy about that. I love this stuff! http://www.kiehls.com/_us/_en/hair/restorative-care/olive-fruit-oil-deeply-repairative-hair-pak.htm. I am definitely going to review this and the shampoo one day soon.
I put another 2 tablespoons of DevaCurl Moisture One throughout my hair and applied KCKT first, then KCCC, then QB Amla & Olive oil and sealed with a Shea Aloe mix (see curlynattie on the TWA thread) in sections. I twisted each section. My hair was strong, pretty dry and rough I thought, so I was heavy handed with the products. After I applied that stuff my hair felt amazing. Check out my happy face!
The last thing I did after I finished twisting was spray my hair with DevaCurl Mist-her Right. It's like gelly hairspray in a non aerosol bottle. I loved it. Can't touch your hair while it's wet thought - wherever I played, the hair frizzed right up.
Here I am on Tuesday morning:
Not bad!!!
I thought it came out beautifully and yes, the texture WAS different in the crown and back from the last time I hennaed. The hairs were smoother and the curl is more uniform - still tight but shiny and springy. I liked it! I may try the gloss next time though - just to try!

Nubie, that girl is the greediest cat on the planet when it comes to attention. She had the nerve to look at me when I woke up and saw her in flagrante delicto, and she had the nerve to start purring. Like, "Are your going to pet me?" Hell no, I ain't pettin' you, haven't you had enough? Get the hell off of my bed you rotten brat!

Hi Swoodward...
Cracking up over here about your cats. I think your henna results came out great!!! When I henna I usually DC for about 2 to 4 hrs and then again two days later. That seems to help with the dryness....
Just wanted to stop by and say hi!
Oh...even though I prefer dogs I must say that your cats are cute.
Have a good one!!

Ok, that cat story is BEYOND a mess! LMBO! Whoa! Never get busy next to me in my bed! I'm the only one up in here allowed to get busy right here! LOL! Ok, I gotta move on but it's hard, still laughing. Meowwwww... I mean EEWW!! LMBO!!!
Ok, your henna and twists came out lovely. It really did. I need to restock on the custard. That's still my favorite product for wngs. Still. But I haven't had any in months. Your cats have... but I haven't. OH!? Did that just creep back in? Sorry! LOL! But seriously, love your hair. I feel like the first time I used henna, the hair at my crown lost a little curly and I was a little dry for a few days. The last time though I added some oils to my mix (I have a jar that marinates with a little nettle, hibiscus flowers and other stuff) and that seemed to fix the problem and I think help with the horrible henna smell. My husband thought I smelled like the Swamp Thing... I am going to use the henna gloss for awhile and see how I like that. Probably this weekend. I want to add some more red into mine though. I need to read up on that. Have a great day!

Hey Doll! Stopping thru to check out what's new! Bwahahaha @ the cat story! I'm a dog lover, myself.
Thanks for sharing your henna routine! I'm really trying to bring myself to try it, but I'm a scary cat *no pun intended*. I have the henna, but it's just sitting there. I'm starting to get encoraged to try it now. I think I will this upcoming week. Did you use your entire mix or did you have some left over? I'm thinking 100g will cover my whole head. IDK. Nice color! I see the red traces.

Thanks KT, great compliment coming from you. Your hair is gorgeous.
Luna was born in my house. She had a couple of litters but I have never questioned her morality until last week!
I have to laugh because you are so right, I DO pet cats in my sleep. I can't tell how how many times I have woken up to me already petting her and her loud ass purr. She's so spoilt.
Maybe she thought she could get a twofer?
