How to clip your own ends??
I'm doing a long transition (no BC'ing) and since the nearest natural salon and/or hair salon that can do black hair is more than 100 miles from where I live (Marshfield, WI), I'm wondering has anyone tried clipping their own ends? Are there any You Tube videos showing how to do it?
Re: How to clip your own ends??
I haven't but I want to learn. I know that it is best to cut with shears instead of regular scissors.
I took a glance at some of the shears at Sally's and walked right out of the store when I saw $40 labels lol

Re: How to clip your own ends??
LOL, I definitely was just going to pick up a pair from Walmart or Target or something.
Re: How to clip your own ends??
Lol I haven't looked at a pair of shears since so I don't know how much they cost at other places but I'm going to check them out cause I have fairy knots flying everywhere!
Re: How to clip your own ends??
I haven't had scissors anywhere near my head since my BC(3/2/09) and I don't plan on any being near me anytime soon.

Wal-Mart has shears, the most expensive ones are $11. I need to get some next time I go so I can trim my ends, I'm not good though when it comes to the back of my hair, I think I can do the front, but Imma have to find someone else to do the back.

You can do two strand twists and then just snip off the ends. It's what I did in January when my ends felt rough and I got single strand knots all over the place. You end up cutting off much less hair then a salon.

I agree with LadyV69; I call it the "Twist & Chop". Twist your hair, clip off the ends. You're cutting off much less than the salon, and saving yourself money as well. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

@LadyMika, if you clip after twisting, how do you make sure everything is even?
Re: How to clip your own ends??
I got my shears at Sally's for $10.
I recently just dusted my ends by putting all my hair in a pony tail and trimming straight across. I'm not worried about things being even since I keep my hair in updos most of the time.

Re: How to clip your own ends??
@lilyflower, I trimmed my own ends once while I was transitioning just like ladymika said. Put my hair in twists and snipped off the ends. There are several youtube videos by naturals showing it.
But to answer your question on my hair being even, I'll be honest with you... since my hair was in curls (twist outs and flat twist outs), I wasn't super concerned with it being perfectly even. But I did try and snip off the same amount from each twist. HTH

My hair was already uneven when I started trimming my own hair (I transitioned and BC'd from a pixie cut the first time. The second time, my hair is even all the way around.). This method isn't entirely accurate. But you're cutting off so little, that if your hair is uneven it won't be noticed unless you're up close.
Re: How to clip your own ends??
Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm going to try the twist and trim method this weekend. I was just worried about the uneven part because I plan on rollersetting in September for a Vegas trip and didn't want my hair to look weird from the trimming.
Re: How to clip your own ends??
If You Just Cut A Little Off The Twist You Should Be Alright For A Rollerset, It Shouldn't Stand Out [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I Love Vegas!!! I'm Trying To Figure Out When I'm Going Again, Hopefully In A Few Months. Have Fun When You Get There! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
