My issue is because I've used indigo. I don't want you guys to think you cannot color over your henna. As long as you've use BAQ (body art quality) henna like you get from mehandi or butters and bars you are fine. The only thing I've read is that because the henna has already pigmented the hair the chemical dye might not last as long.

I know right. I'm so unhappy about this.

I wouldn't want to either if I was in your position, but I'm glad you posted this because I have been going back and forth as to whether I want to color/henna my hair. But hopefully there is a quick fix for the problem that doesn't involved trimming or cutting your hair.
You'll be okay using henna and switching back to chemical color. Just be sure to use the BAQ henna.
krazy coils wrote:DVA I was going to ask if you could let the indigo grow out but not sure how long that would take either. I know you wanted to color your hair to cover your gray, have you thought of using a rinse until it grows out so you won't have to cut it? You would have to use them often since you co-wash more often but that is an option. Also when using a rinse they usually last a little longer if you use them with heat by sitting under a dryer.
This is the very reason I was indecisive about using henna. I used permanent color in the past and I knew I would want to return to it one day.
Thanks for the tip about the rinses. This gray hair is bothering me so much because it's so prominent. I'm going to see if a rinse will work.
Juices-n-Berries wrote:Hopefully you won't have to cut it. I've been thinking about coloring my hair, but I've already henna'd it. And now I hear that you can't do that. I really should have done my research first.
You can color. Just make sure you verify that your henna is BAQ so your hair does not have an adverse reaction if you do decide to have your hair chemically colored. As long as you didn't use indigo you're good.

well what color u tryin to go...BLONDE !! i'd say go with a rinse too and since i've been toyin back n forth wit this whole color thing, i've decided im doin my henna next month but i WILL try this rinse knh gave me again this week. for now i really only want a red tint and maybe for my year anniversary i was thinkin of goin a tad lighter but i dont know!
i'd still one day like to have that janet jackson "i get so lonely" color but im gonna wait for more growth (IF i decide to keep it longer)...as u can tell im so undecisive which is why i cant be boxed in cuz i get bored
@chrs too, thats so funny cuz i seen the big bottle of gio n thought of dva myself, lol. there's no need for me to get it cuz the 50:50 condish does nothing for me!

Wow DVA! So, I'm just getting caught up on this subject! So, because you have used indigo, you pretty much can't use any color... I'm sorry... We have both been trying to figure that out... I only use BAQ henna and I've still been hesitant! The good thing is that your hair has been growing out well and seemingly fast of late. It will be no time before you can color! But I would try the rinses until then. Hang in there!
Re: DvaAuNaturel
Hey Poeticly,
My color issue is because I've also used indigo. It can get kind of confusing, at least for me anyhow. You will be okay since you've only used henna, especially if is the body art quality. Check out hennaforhair.com in the forums. There is a lot of info in there...it might help you in making your final decision. Good luck!

Heck no, I'm not going blonde. That would not be a good look for me at all but I definitely will be going lighter and not darker so I'll just have to wait it out at this point. Going to pick up some Jazzin' today.
That Janet Jackson color will look so FLYYYYYY on you!

My Best Twistout Yet!!
Hey Curly Divas,
So now that I'm over the fact that I cannot get my hair colored just yet, I plan to just use some rinses and see if that will help me battle the gray. I feel like my hair is doing well and this week was a great one in fact so I'm trying to focus on what is going well and not what's wrong and what I cannot do. I picked up some Jazzing in Black Cherry, that was the only color I liked, from the BSS. I saw some Clairol semi perm color specifically for gray that I'm interested in trying so I need to research that and see if that is an alternative until I can get to the salon for a professional coloring.
Anyway I think I've achieved one of my best twistouts to date. I twisted on Sunday using my Kimmaytube Leave In and some the Koils by Nature gel. Although the KBN gel didn't give me the hold I like it worked out well. My hair fuzzes easy so I think something like the Eco works better for me. I'm going to do the same routine tomorrow or Saturday using the Eco and see what the differences are. I think the KBN gel would be awesome for a puff and worked better on my flat twists because it smooths the hair out so nicely.
Here are pics of my twist out from today:
Also, I thought all of this time I was doing pretty good following the CG method or a modified version of it. Well lo and behold my Giovanni SAS poo has amodimethicone in it. That is why you must know your products. So I started out CG all gung ho and got sidetracked trying to change it up and do the modified version and messed up. I plan to try it in the next month. So I plan to use my other products with cones that I was trying to avoid or debating about using, before I REALLY FULLY try the CG method the right way this time. Anyhoo, lesson learned: read and know your product ingredients.

I forgot to add that I made a spritz of AVJuice, glycerin and water to spritz my hair and would seal with either KBN butter or jojoba oil. That keep my twists so super soft. I mean when I touch them they felt like cotton. I don't think I've had that before but DO KNOW my hair likes AV Juice. So, another lesson learned...stick with what you know works too.

Love the new avi DVA! I've used the Jazzin Black cherry and liked it. It gives your hair a black color with a hint of red in light. I need to go back and play with those Jazzin colors again because I loved them.

Sorry to hear about indigo and chemical colors. I never thought to investigate since I never planned to color chemically. After seeing Serenity23's color, I was contemplating coloring. I guess that is a no go, oh well.

giiiiiiirl throw that rinse on n call it a day!! i think the black cherry will be good. im gonna pick up some spicy cognac from jazzy!! im thinking...or wondering really...can i mix the rinse w/my dc so i can kill 2 birds wit one stone, that way i dont have to follow with a condish
i love the avi...where do u get ur eyebrows done? i mean i barely have any but the next place i try i want them to give me 2 ARCHES n not just one. u know how its always that ONE eyebrow that comes out perfect...so hopefully i can try out that place in brandywine, u know that new shopping center before u hit waldorf.
too bad kbn didnt give u hold on the twist but i can see how the eco would give better hold becuz its thicker. i got a good hold using it on my coils but the eco is my top go to gel if i want MAJOR hold...crunch n all. im actually thinkin of combining the eco w/kbn cuz i like how the kbn makes it soft w/sheen!

Eyebrows! Mine look so bad, I am long overdue to get them done. I normally just get them done when I get to a salon to my pedicure or as you say, by Ming Lee and them... . Sometimes they do a good job other times it's okay. I want to try threading at this place in Dupont Circle. They are supposed to be really really good. We'll see after I let mine grow back in some more.NubieNatty wrote:i love the avi...where do u get ur eyebrows done? i mean i barely have any but the next place i try i want them to give me 2 ARCHES n not just one.

And thanks for the tip of combining the Eco with the KBN gel. That will probably eliminate any possibility of crunchiness.

Hey DVA! Seeing your new AVI made me come by here. It is super cute and that twist out is awesome. It looks great to me despite the lack of hold you wanted. Did you use the jazzing too? I'm getting some this weekend and giving it a go.

Re: DvaAuNaturel
I must stay off the hennaforhair.com website. Everytime I go there to check for answers to my question about the indigo and color I get more pissed off. I can't even use a semi permanent. As one person put it my hair would turn green. WTF!!!?? Trying to keep it cool but I'm really irritated right now.
So I've decided that I'll be getting a weave as soon as the stylist I'm trying to get to do it has some appointments. I want this crap out of my hair so I'll grow it out under the weave. I'll weave and then let my hair out and then reweave and so on. That'll take me through the fall/winter I guess.
I'll post my pics with the results from my Jazzzing tomorrow. The color isnt going to last very long because I can't use heat to help it adhere to my hair any longer because if I do it will react negatively with the indigo and my hair color results would be crazy. But at least I'll be able to color up my roots for short while. That'll keep me until I get the weave. I want a big a*& curly weave too. I'm looking forward to it.
Have a great weekend!

It will probably blend nicely. If you use heat for about 30 mins with the jazzing it's a semi permanent. You should be okay...I know it'll turn out nicely.

Hi Dva....
Just catching up on your thread. I'm so sorry that you can't color on top on indigo. I did research henna before I started this process, and I understood that I wouldn't be able to go back to permanent color. I'm fine with not being able to color on top of henna. I'm using BQA henna, and I love the conditioning benefits and the texture change. Isn't that weird? Right....I know!! My curls loosen up, but after I DC I get cute ringlets curls!!
I was using jazzin when I did my big chop, but at the rate I shampoo'ed back then I was having to apply jazzin every week.
Do you really want to do a weave? I mean you hair is sooo pretty. I've been following your journey since you started a BnB tread, and you've made so much progress. OBTW...congratulations on your 5 month anniversary!! So Sorry I missed that!!!
Well....let me get back focused. Your hair is HOT...I was in the general thread and your avatar was the first thing I was. I was like "Look at Dva!!"" You and your hair are looking good girl!!!
Well, I know what you are going through with the grey hair. I have grey popin up around my hair line, and I'm sitting here with henna on my hair right now. The henna I did last week didn't take.... I'm sure it's something I did wrong. I will continue with BQA henna for my grey, because it seems to last about 4 weeks before I have to do another treatment. Which is working for me right now.
I've missed a lot, but I wanted to stop by and leave you with a few word of encouragement. Hope I did that...
Hope you are enjoying your weekend. Take care...
