Henna and amla powder mix
Hi Curlies,
What were your results when you mixed amla powder with your henna? Was there any major color/texture changes? Let me know!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Henna and amla powder mix
I have done it once. I did not notice any difference. I was hoping to have less red and more brown.

I haven't tried the henna and amla mix yet, but I've tried amla alone and I like it so far! (results may vary, I've read on discussion boards that its very drying for some people). I will try henna with amla this summer for sure! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Henna and amla powder mix
My very first mix was henna and amla. I didn't notice any loss of curl but I wouldn't read too much into that as it was my first application and you would tend to see loss of curl (if any) after a few applications, since henna progressively weighs the hair down.
I didn't use it again as I found it a bit on the dry side.
I was thinking that if people want to avoid loss of curl, they might want to do full head hennas for say the first 4 times to get colour saturation and then after that only do root touch ups, maybe only doing a full treatment every 4 or 5 treatments or so to ensure that colour stay matched.
I've just started doing touch ups.

Re: Henna and amla powder mix
I did a henna mix with Amla and Brahmi and received more thickness in my hair, especially where there was a thin area from the damage of the PPD hair colors to cover my grays (Bigen and Clairol). My grays are now auburn and my hair is moist and shiny. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
This is what I mixed ...
1 box of Jamila Summer Crop 2009 henna
2 tablespoons of Hesh Amla (This was my acid)
1 tablespoon of Hesh Brahmi
1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger (help camouflage the smell)
1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves (help camouflage the smell)
Warm spring water
Mixed on Saturday, April 17th and let sit for 12 hours.
Thawed out on Friday, April 23rd and then placed in a bowl with warm water and stirred.
I washed my hair (no conditioner) and applied the henna. I wrapped my hair in plastic wrap, plastic conditioning cap and the gold deep conditioning cap. I placed towels over my pillow and went to sleep. I left on the henna mix for 6 hours. I got up and washed my hair in the shower with hot water because to me it's warm, but to my family it's hot. It took me about 5 minutes or less to wash out the henna mix. My hair was very soft. I then shampooed 2 times and used a cheap conditioner. My final conditioner was the Aussie Moist applied to my hair while I showered.
I then washed out the conditioner, blotted my hair with a tower and styled it with my shea butter mix. I did 2 strand twists and noticed my hair is much thicker, especially where it was thinning. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I tried it, and I didn't see a difference. I wanted less red also. I've used the indigo with the jamila henna, and I cannot find the correct amounts to tone down the red.

Re: Henna and amla powder mix
It does tone down the red depending on ur hair color prior to henna app. My vfirst app was 1 part henna 1 part amla.....med auburn.
Then I did 3 part amla 1 part henna=brownie wth red tint(didnt dig it). So weeks later I put a espresso brown rinse in and now my hair is black?!! Not sure what happened that it turned black.
