HI my name is Sabine and I'm from Connecticut. I'm am an LPN and currently in school working to get my RN. I will be done next year hopefully. I have been natural for about 3 years. In my 3 years of being natural I have been wearing braids and weave for about 98% of the time. Just recently I really thought about my reasons for going natural. I realized that I had expectations of waking up one day and having Tracey Ellis Ross hair. Of course that wasn't going to happen...especially overnight!!! I did my BC in December 2007. I'm thinking about doing another cut but actually keeping up with it this time. I am challenging myself to wear my own hair for the next 3 months. It might now sound like a long time but for someone like myself who is so hooked on getting a weaves, that seems almost impossible. I'm so happy I found this network because I'm sure with all the support I'll be able to make it to 3 months and hopefully longer. I havent set up an online album yet but I will definitely start that process! I'm loking forward to my journey with you ladies. TTYL

Hi! I don't have an avatar here, but I've been posting all over the place here. I'm calling myself Cygnet, after my blog, Canticle of the Cygnet.

I was born in Jacksonville, NC, but I've lived most of my life in Raleigh. I didn't start using chemicals until in my teens, when the Jheri Curl came out, and everyone in my family got one. I used a variety of chemical processes (two relaxers that both fell out, more boxed curly perms) until the late 90's when I went natural. Not knowing how not to comb my hair, I tried texturizing in frustration and did it for several years. Then in June (I think) 2007, due to several different factors, I texturized for the last time. Instead of a big chop, I did a series of little snips every few months, with my mom doing the last little snip in March of this year. So I've been fully natural 8 months.

Currently, I'm a job shopper. I'm looking for work, and I hope I find it real soon!

The products I'm currently using are Garnier Fructis Moisture Works Shampoo for deep cleaning pre-henna; conditioners from the Herbal Essence line for co-washing; a 1:1:3 ratio mix of Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut conditioner, either coconut or olive oil or both, and water as a leave-in/detangler; and Sta-Sof-Fro as a finishing spray. Every 4-6 weeks I apply henna for color.

How long you've been natural: At had my 1st relaxer at the age of 15, that when I had came to the US to live. I had big chopped in January 15th 2009... and i had gotten another cut in February 2009...sooo I have been natural 9 months......



Fav products: Shea butter (of course), olive oil, coconut oil, henna ( i love henna), African best herbal oil, castor oil ( i love you).

I would like to add some more products to this list in the further, like aloe vera gel, some more essential oil and fragances and maybe some store band products.

Funny story (kind of overdramatic, but this is exactly how it happened) - Two weeks ago, I was really frustrated with my hair. I was thinking about getting a relaxer or trying that Brazilian Keratin Treatment, just because I was just clueless on helping my hair look it's best. Somehow, I stumbled upon CN.com & it's been a huge blessing so far!
No picture yet. But, hopefully I'll be able to upload an avatar soon!

Where are you from: Born in DC, lived in various cities in MD.
What you do: Sales Associate at a specialty running store.
How long you've been natural: Ooh let's see. Relaxed for a few years when I was a girl & then I grew that out. Texturized for a few months when I was 16. Then, because the hair at my nape was breaking off at a crazy rate, I grew the texturizer out & have been natural every since.
Fav products: So far, I'm drinking the Kinky Curly kool-aid. I use Come Clean, Knot Today, & the Curling Custard & I love it. I have the Pantene mask as a deep conditioner, but I'm trying to find something else without cones (I'm thinking of the one from Blended Beauty.)

My new years resolution was to have healthy hair (by taking better care of it and stretching relaxers). Then in Aug.08, I decided that I wouldn't use a relaxer again.
