@modelnik- thanks! You can't BC till you're ready. I thought I needed a year, but 4 months in- I got impatient. I'm still nervous about how it will grow at times... but I'm more happy than nervous so it was worth it. I also had A LOT of damaged (relaxed) hair. I mean A LOT. hahaha. But you can't do it till you're ready.
@lynnieluve- I love rustic beauty too!

I am also a 4 type more of a kinky curly is what I'm seeing so far (just started transitioning). I have to ask about the Giovanni Products, are they any good.

Giovanni products work pretty well for me. Try to find them at TJ Maxx or Marshalls since you get a better deal there.
Re: Type 4's....where you at?
Two of my staple products are Giovanni Direct Leave In and Smooth As Silk Conditioners.

**BUMP**
Someone mentioned it briefly - that evil 's' word.....shrinkage! What are some products/methods you use to combat that?

Re: Type 4's....where you at?
My shrinkage is MASSIVE!! The only thing I can do for it is stretch it by cornrowing it while wet. I do it over the weekend to allow a full 24 hours to dry. If my hair isn't 100% dry when I loosen, then shrinkage will start to creep back in.
Some pple band their hair, but cornrowing for me eliminates a step. After banding, I would still need to style my hair. Then later that night, I would still need to cornrow b4 bed. I take long enough washing and DCing my hair; I don't want to add unnecessary steps.

i agree with Angel, my hair gets REALLY tight and curly while wet.And oh god,dnt even talk about a wash n go.My hair jus wont let me do it.The best i cn do is braids in the shower.Bt the funny thing is by the time my hair is dry and in braids, wen i take it out, its long again >:p

Oh bless your heart! LOL I totally thought it was just me. I've tried it several times but no matter how wet/dry or whatever gel I use it alllways shrinks back. hmph! I'm coming to terms with that. W&G's just seem so low maintenance and perfect for the summer. Guess I just have to keep on with the various methods of twists and braids.

Re: Type 4's....where you at?
lol^^i see im not the only one!I think thts one of the reasons i want my fro to get bigger,so when it shrinks, it wont look that small.Ive literally tried everything! my hair wont budge one bit.also one of the reasons why i dread washing my hair. Its all good when im in the shower washing it, but as soon as i look in the mirror, ive got a teeny afro.If i braid it that same night and take it down the next day, its a huge fro.I dont get my hair sometimes.

It's my natural hair color, too. LOL I surprised you saw it. I thought it was only noticeable in the sunlight.

Imagine jolie.nappy, I am ashamed that I'm not fluent in creole.
You should come to St. Lucia sometime. Carnival is coming up and the Martiniquan bands that come across always have a great time.
My favourite product these days is coconut oil! I had an inch or so of rough ends I was sure I'd have to cut. But a DC this sunday with Garnier Fructis sleek & shine mixed with a good dose of coconut oil left them shiny, curly and soft!
I'll be repeating this treatment once a week.
I'm going to be using it in everything from now on, I am in LOVE with coconut oil!

Re: Type 4's....where you at?
Jolie.Nappy, I have also had that problem in the past - it's sometimes hard to source the stuff that our American curlies can get from Whole Foods etc...
I found that the solution to this is to use as many simple, natural products as I can. I've recently incorporated coconut oil into my routine and it has been working great - I just get the regular refined, deodorized one they sell in the supermarket. I don't like the smell of the extra-virgin cold pressed coconut oil, and I find the supermarket version does just as well.
My next investments will be castor oil, which I will pick up at any pharmacy. I'll supplement this with some tea tree essential oil (pharmacy again), and something soothing like cammomile tea which i will use as a refreshing spray.
If you look around and are careful, you could find simple products that your hair loves as well!

Re: Type 4's....where you at?
@ jessimae - The one I use is Sleek & Shine, it comes in a little green pot with an orange cover.
I also bought a Garnier Curl Cream but I dont know how to use it...is this to replace clear gel? If someone can enlighten me i'll be glad.
