Anyhoo, my sister became a certified instructor so I have been getting my booty into her classes for the past few months... for $free.99! She has also recently developed a class called Island Vibe, which is just like Zumba only to soca, reggae and calypso music. I get in there and basically wine away the pounds lol.
Oooh can she put out a dvd or at least a youtube video workout? Pretty please? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I really like Zumba too, and have done it for about a year, but haven't been as consistent with it in recent months because I have started another sport (Jujitsu) which is a little rough on my joints. But I noticed I do need to still do some cardio so I am going to try to Zumba once or twice a week.. you burn 500+ calories in an hour and it's fun to do.
Re: ZUMBA CLASSES
I found this discussion by accident but coincidentally my friend posted in her status on facebook that she was going to Zumba and that it was time for a change I thought she meant she was going to be traveling outside of the country somewhere. I feel so silly [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Well I am glad that I stumbled upon this topic because now I want to take Zumba classes too!

I've always wanted to try Zumba but there aren't any classes nearby that work with my schedule
But I've always said that I'd LOVE to go to an exercise class that incorporates soca, reggae & calypso! That's what I'm talkin about LOL! Instead I just crank it up in my house and wine!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I'm totally glad I stumbled across this post! As a Zumba instructor I'm always glad to hear that people are enjoying their classes and getting the most out of them. This is what keeps Zumba Fitness growing. It's a 45-60 minutes of all out partying! If you're thinking about becoming an instructor, I have two words for you. DO IT! Get your group fitness instructor certification and Zumba Instructor training and do it. I've been a student and an instructor and I can honestly say that teaching is just as fun and rewarding as being a student, if not more. So keep up the great work ladies in your classes (both students and any instructors that might be lurking around lol) and if Zumba isn't in your area yet, don't worry. The party will come to you! @keshabear: Check out www.zumba.com. Click on the "Find A Class" link and type in your address, the distance you're willing to travel and submit. A list of classes should popup in your area if there are any. Hope this helps!!

Re: ZUMBA CLASSES
@Kinkyshea - I'm so glad you put that link up because that's where I looked a couple months ago and found only 3 locations, with times/days/locations that were not convenient for me.
But I just checked again and now there are like 10 more options and more that are closer to me!! I think I'll do this this summer!
Thanks again!

Re: ZUMBA CLASSES
@Jamaicacurl- Awesome! I'm glad to help and so happy that there are new options for you. Welcome to the party!!! :-)
If anyone is looking for official Zumba class it's always good to check zumba.com often. There are tons of instructor trainings at various locations across the country throughout months. So new instructors are popping up, along with new classes, all over the place. Or you may find that an existing instructor may have added new classes to their schedule as well. So check back often. We are always growing in the Zumba Family :-).

Re: ZUMBA CLASSES
Thanks KinkyShea for the link. Since viewing the infommercials I've been excited about doing this because I love to dance and hate to traditionally exercise. How would I go about finding the the fees for the classes because those offered near me are held at public schools? All they need now is to create a class that features dancehall, calypso and soca.

Re: ZUMBA CLASSES
@HAMPTONSFNST: If you want to know the fees for a Zumba class that's not being offered at a gym or a facility that requires membership, you should contact the instructor. The instructor may have punch cards that you can purchase with 10 or 20 classes available. The fee for the classes or punch card is up to the instructor.
To find out the fees you can do this one of two ways.
1. Contact the facility where you want to take the class and see what the fees are, if punch cards are offered, or if a paying membership is required to take classes at the facility (which you shouldn't have to worry about if the class is at a public school).
Or
2. If you know the name of the instructor, or are doing a general class search on zumba.com, you can contact the instructor directly though the zumba.com website with all of your questions about fees.
Remember the fees may vary from instructor to instructor, or from facility to facility. Hope this helps!! :-)

Re: ZUMBA CLASSES
I tried my first Zumba class last night and my body is sore. I had a great time and have even asked my lil sister to join me next week. I'm so happy I found a routine I can enjoy and not feel like I'm exercising. Hopefully I will commit to this and change my eating habits with moderation. I want to be secure with myself for the summer.

Do you have to have a high fitness level at the beginning or can anyone catch on? They do offer a zumba class at my gym and I am thinking about trying it out.

Re: ZUMBA CLASSES
I've been attending Zumba classes at 24hr Fitness (Pearland, TX) and I love it. Its the best workout b/c I just feels like I'm out partying and I get to do it 3 times a week (when I was in OK I could only go once a week).
Also, I noticed there are quite a few naturals in my Zumba classes. Every time I go there are at least 2 others in the room.

Re: ZUMBA CLASSES
I hate to say that I haven't been to Zumba class in about two weeks due to a bilateral knee injury yet I may go this evening. If not, I will take advantage of this beautiful weather and go for a walk. I happy to share that my bf was thoughtful enough to order the DVDs for me so that I can save the $20/wk I spend for two classes.

The Wellness Center by HBU on the Southwest side. I'm going there for the rest of the summer but I might be interested in Pearland come August because it's closer. Does 24 allow y'all to have guests for a day? If so I'd love to check it out.

They actually had a special this weekend. We could have gone today! I'll ask what their guest policy is on Monday.
