What's the difference between that and regular?[/quote]

* even though this is worded like an advertisement for JBCO it makes some valid points about the packaging difference and authenicity of the oil

My own experience has been that the regular oil really didn't make a difference. However, when I added the JBCO I've noticed that my hair is thicker. I also use it in my OCM for my face and I really like it. Because I hate to pay shipping I do mix my JBCO with regular castor oil until I can get a good supply of JBCO.

Ok I tried those flat twists and they didn't work. I decided to part the sections first so that I could have them done. Well my edges are super curly and the twists didn't lay flat to my scalp. Maybe I should have done them dry, but I didn't want to wait until they dried.

Right now I have a two big flat twist going down the side of my head and four chunky twists in the back. I'm supposed to meet a friend tonight so if I go out I'll take them all down and wear a ponytail. If I'm still home in a hour I'll add some more twists to the back.

Oh I did make my mixture. I used the rest of my Qhemet Heavy Cream, JBCO, Olive oil, and loc and twist gel. I didn't like the texture but I think it will work to hold my edges down and smooth the roots down. Also, I used Giovanni Smooth as Silk as a leave-in.

Let's see what tomorrow holds for this hair. I really didn't have a plan B ha ha ha If all fails I'll cowash again and do ummm I don't know ;P

Ok I went back and twisted the back of my hair with my mixture. I think I might have a huge part in the back of my head...need to remember not to part my hair down the middle. I did leave the 2 flat twist in the front so we'll see how it turns out.

I have the hardest time making chunky twists. They always end up small; slightly bigger than a pencil with a few about the size of a pencil. Shrinkage will have its way on these small twists too.

...so nite nite ladies Wink

Post by SisterBoyd 31st January 2010, 12:05 pm

Thanks ladies and me too! For some reason I'm up before 7 am after staying up until almost 3 am ugh! Well since I was up and I'm so nosey when it comes to my hair I took my bonnet off and started playing with my hair hee hee hee. I sealed my ends with the JBCO and put the bonnet back on. That was my way of psyching myself out to get my hands out of my head.

Does anyone else have this feeling? When I was doing my hair I wanted to keep my curls out because they were so pretty! But I know I need to do protective styles. However, I miss my curls already ha ha ha. It seems like the times I twist my hair are the times my curls look the best. Last night I amost took my hair down and just wore a wash'n'go. Its like I have this internal struggle with loving my curls, but knowing I need to protect them.

Part of my problem is that I'm not a pro at twisting my hair. They haven't arrived to the place where I can where them out in public. And my twist outs don't seem to work for me. I do them because I know that I need to. I haven't officially put myself on a twist schedule either so when I do them its because I have this idea of a style, a product I want to use, or I'm inspired by someone.

My hair never dries overnight and I never plan to do my hair at night. The few times I planned to twist my hair and it was able to set over night was after a day with a wash'n'go. I would do my hair earlier that day and then later that night while watching TV I would twist my hair. I guess that's better because I'm working on damp hair instead of soaking wet hair. However, I still have the issue with the attractiveness of the twists.

Like I said before I usually wear a headwrap or a hat if I keep my twists in over a period of days. This ties me down to stay home most of the time when I twist. Like last night I was supposed to go out, but the person couldn't make it so I went ahead and twisted my hair. OMG I would never wear these twists on a date!

Am I missing something here? So ladies help me out here... how are you living with twists? If your twists are presentable to the world what is your secret(s)? Oh and bantu knots...I need help with those too? Wink

Hi SisterBoyd~

I too am twisted challenged. I haven't perfected my technique yet...nor found the right product to twist with. However, oooop2 posted a tread for the twisted challenged in the forum. Check it out...it has step by steps for doing the 2 strand twists.

As far as wearing twist out in public...my hair is about 3 inch in the front and 3 1/2 inches in the back....I don't think I will be wearing my twists (unless I can successfully do a twist out ) in public until I get some more length. I work and interface with all levels of management, and my manager is very conservative so...that will not work in my environment. She doing well accepting my natural look...and that is a stretch for her. lol!

Maybe as I get more length...I'll twist on Friday and do the weekend thing. I've read that the twist out looks much better after being twisted for several days.

Good luck with your twists and check out the link oooop2 posted in the forum. Great information...

KinkyNappyHappy asked me how my mixture turned out in 35 and over thread...like I said it wasn't a smooth mixture. Actually it didn't mix well at all. By that I mean that you can see the different ingredients. However, once I put it on my hair it blended well. My hair isn't oily from the oils, it doesn't have white spots from not mixing well, and I can feel the hold from the loc and twist gel. Actually, its holding my edged down really well. They aren't stiff like when I use a hardcore gel and I feel the softness of the oils.

I made this mixture because I wanted to twist with the Qhemet Heavy Cream, but I had enough to do about 2-3 twists. And that would have been with running the product down the length of my hair; not just sealing my ends. I figured it would give the gel some moisture and the oils would be a great sealer since I did use the Giovanni as a leave-in.

My hair is soft. Not greasy. Its almost dry and doesn't have a hard, crunchy feel to it. But it doesn't have a lot of shine to it. I'll figure something out for that.

Someone who feels me! I think my twist outs look better after being in for a few days. Actually, I can't honestly say that I've tried it overnight. I'm going to try that one day!

I can't seem to get my post in on time lately...man!

Well here are some pictures from my twist out that I did over the weekend.

SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1010

SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1011

I was running late for my meeting this afternoon so please excuse my tireness. These were taken tonight after dinner.

The flat twists in the front came out frizzy, but I sort of expected that. I made sure my fingers were covered in olive and castor oil as I took my twists out. I didn't seperate them because I didn't want to deal with frizz. They're moisturized and look better than my past efforts. However, I had a part on the side and I forgot that it would last. I can't have that right now because I'm due for a cellophane...no gray parts ha haha So that explains why my hair is clipped in the front. I'll have to try it again with my twist going back.

I'm assuming that they will loosen in a few days. Tonight I'm going to simply sleep in my satin bonnet. I don't think I'll seal my ends tonight as I feel some oil in my hair now.

Also, I received a new denman brush this weekend. I ordered the D31 after reading that the one I have isn't for thick, curly hair. Here is what it looks like. Of course the new one is the one with less bristles and the one with more bristles and a hair is my old one. ha ha ha
SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1012
You can see mine has turned red from all of the cellophaning ha haha

After sleeping in my satin bonnet and sleeping on my back all night I decided to spritz my hair and add a little olive and castor oil. Since today was the day of conference calls I was able to keep my hair as is until I had to leave for a few errands and I wore a headband.

Right now my hair feels strong and I still have quite a few of my seperated twists intact. It doesn't seem as tight as it was yesterday, but I really didn't do much fluffing today.

This will have to last me until the end of the week when I do my cellophane. I'm going to prepoo first, shampoo once, apply my cellophane, cowash, and then deep condition. My prepoos always contain honey and some type of oil. I'm not sure just yet what else I'll use. And I haven't decided on a deep conditioner. Has anyone used any of the Giovanni conditioners as deep conditioners?

Thank you ladies!

Last night I spritz my hair and sealed my ends with olive and castor oil. Then I made 7 twists, covered with a plastic cap and my satin bonnet. I took the covering off and my hair was still wet this morning. Hopefully, it will be dry in a hour or two so I can get dressed if I have to leave the house.

With all of this oil I'm not sure if a prepoo is necessary ha ha ha. And I'm getting anxious about my cellophane because I'm tired of looking at the grey. So I might do it tomorrow or Friday...heck I might do it today. That would give me 4 days for the LA meet up. My hair always looks better right before its time to wash it again ha haha.

Hello lovies!
I did my cellophane today and it took me all day to finish my hair. What was supposed to be done by 12 noon was finished this evening at 10 pm. At least my hair is really conditioned ha haha

Well this is what I did...

I started with prepooing last night with honey, olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil. I slept in that and here is where the delay started.

Next I shampoo'd my hair with HE Twisted (I can never remember the full name). I've fixed this shampoo by adding honey, garlic water, glycerin, aloe, and a few oils. After rinsing my prepoo out I took the shampoo and applied it directly to my scalp. It lathered well and I made sure not to get my end mixed with the lather. They would be fine with the run off.

Here is what my hair looked like after I shampoo'd
SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1015

SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1016

SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1017

I used Sebastian Professional Cellophanes Laminates in Red Red. I was on the last of my bottle so at the end I used Gold Red on the ends. Cellophane doesn't mix so you'll get the most powerful color. Since I was just to ensure that I got that last section covered I didn't care if the color was uneven. Since I have so much grey my color is never even and I don't want the flat look anyway.

Here is my set up. Usually I don't use a bowl and brush but I did to make sure I had enough for my entire head.
SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1018

I left the cellophane in for just over an hour. I covered it with 3 plastic bags and 2 scarves...and then I did a 45 minute workout to generate some heat. After I rinsed it until I didn't see any red I cowashed with VO5. When I rinsed the cellophane out it looked like thick red Kool-aid ha haha

This is what it looked loke after I rinsed it out.
SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1019

SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1020

SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1021

Next, I deep conditioned with a mixture I put together. Honey, Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner, Carol's Daughter Tui Hair Smoothie, Giovanni Smooth as Silk, Olive Oil
SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1022

And this is where the process was stopped. I was supposed to leave this on a hour ha haha. I started cleaning my desk, cleaning file cabinets, on the phone, planned my dinner, and next thing I know it was time to pick up my son. When I got home I had dinner to cook and more phone calls to make. And then I got caught on Facebook SisterBoyd - Page 3 Icon_lol So I have to finally pull myself away and do my hair.

I did the condition only method using Tresseme Curls Moisturizing after I applied my leave-in of glycerin and aloe.

Oops I hit send and I wasn't finished...sorry I didn't get to proof that.

Here is what my hair looks like freshly done...

SisterBoyd - Page 3 Imag1025

I was able to use my new Denman D31 brush today and I love it. I had less shed hair in my brush and as you can see my curls are defined.

My hair is still wet. Hopefully, I can stay up for at least a hour longer. I'll sleep with a satin bonnet tonight and try to stay off of my hair, but if not it will be fine. I'm going to get super shrinkage anyway.

My color will tone down as the weeks go by. It will be lighter once it drys. I'll be due for another cellophane in April and that's when I'll go back to blonde; Honey Wheat I believe is the color.

Hopefully, I can get some pictures tomorrow. Night night ladies!
