Self-Chop or Shop Chop?
Okay...so I had a mini-chop done this past weekend. I cut shoulder legnth to chin bob. But now...I am OFFICIALLY over the permed ends....seriously. However...there was a huge ice storm in GA last nite so it looks like I might be snowed in. So...I want to cut it off but am a lil hesitant. I dont want it to look a hot mess; I kind would rather go to salon but due to ice and lack of 30 bucks to spare...I'm either stuck with these ends or I'll have to man up and do it myself. What would u do or how do u plan to BC?! This is how I want to cut it...[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Basically 3 inches everywhere but my bang.

How long have you been transitioning? Will you cut wet or straight? I'm contemplating cutting myself too - but I would rather go to a salon. Like you I don't want a hot mess with no shape.

I guess I'd do it dry...easier to manage. I've been transitioning since August... I think I might part it in sections and cut part by part...as if I were doing a relaxer....starting from the back and work my way up...idk. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

There are a lot of videos on youtube. I would do it wet though so you know exactly where the relaxed ends start
Re: Self-Chop or Shop Chop?
Do it wet so the relaxed ends will Clump together and you'll see the New Growth alot better!!

I think that since you already have an idea of how you want your hair cut, you may want to go to a salon to have it done. I did my BC at a salon. If I had done my own BC, I know I would have missed a lot of relaxed ends in the back and I wouldn't have been able to get it to look even.

I plan to go to the shop to get my hair cut if I decide to do a BC simply because I want my hair to be even and if I tried to do that myself, I'd mess around and end up bald. LOL
Re: Self-Chop or Shop Chop?
I am so glad someone else out there has the same questions I have, but I have a little more to add...should I go to an all natural salon or just my regular salon? What about the washing and the conditioning, she uses all the wrong products @ my old salon. I've only been going natural since Oct.09.

I too wanted to do the BC in November. My mistake was going to my stylist who use to perm my hair. She completely talked out of it. Now im waiting til May.

Yeah, I'm thinking wet too, because I can define the two textures better.
