Flat Twistouts? Empty Flat Twistouts?

Post by NaturalNurse04 1st November 2009, 6:13 pm

Hello curlies! Is there anyone here that is an expert at doing twistouts with flat twists? I have tried doing two strand twists and they don't really work well for me because my hair won't stay twisted (I've tried many different types of creams and gels), so I decided that I want to try flat twists. What products do you use for your flat twists? Do you do them wet/dry? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi,
I have a TWA and Flat Twists are awesome! I actually like the flat twist a little better because they can last a week and look really good, if you tie it down at night. I understand how you feel about twist/twistouts. Because of my hair type, I also have a problem with two strand twist. They will unravel also. I have my hair in two strand twist right now, and I have to say that I am getting better with them. I think practice is the the key to two strand twists. (and length). Mine are getting better but the the twistouts need work. I have to figure out how to get it to look full and not like Relaxed hair...i mean, it looks full, but you can see the spaces. I guess, I have to keep practicing with those and have patience also.

When I twist my hair, (Flat or Two Strand) I do it while it is wet, with conditioner. Herbal Essence Hello Hydration (HH) or Totally Twisted (TT). That is it. I tried gel, but I didnt like it. I also tried shea butter, but it just sits on my hair.

Like I stated earlier, my twists arent the best, so I feel practice and time makes perfect. Here is my hair Two Strand twisted and Flat twisted.

I hope I helped! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Okay, I am trying to upload a picture, but I can't. Does anyone know how to upload pictures here?

I do flat twists all the time. It's my favorite "quick do" I have pics in my FOTKI under the "twists and twist outs album"

I do mine both wet and dry but when I do them dry, I do mist my hair lightly. I also on use oil or shea butter to twist. I prefer flat twist over the two strand twist for twist outs.

Hola, I don't have any pics of my flat twist outs but it's really my favorite style. I only do 8 twists. I usually do two sections on the sides, two sections on the top, two crown sections and two sections in the back. At the end of each flattwist, I kind of curl the hair up around itself on the end and make a bantu knot just on the end, it gives me a rounder flattwist out. Just be sure to have your flattwists going in the direction you want your hair to go. I don't do mine straight back since I like my hair to fall in my face.

As far as products go, I use a smidge of nexxus humectress and aloe vera gel on the ends. Have fun with it, experimentation is KEY!

Why did you use Crisco?

I was wondering the same thing! Afroness, please elaborate. I've never heard of anyone using Crisco.

Crisco is a great sealer, I use it in place of Shea butter in my mixes. Infact crisco is compared to shea butter. I also use it on my skin for the treatment of eczema. It makes my hair soft and it seals in moisture like no other for me. If I use shea my hair feels soft but it looks ashey and dry.

I've do flat twistout here and there when I feel like it. But I basically leave in some condish after I finish washing I then apply a leave-in then kckt and then shea butter. No matter what you do remember to smooth and seal your ends. I don't have any tutorials but I probably do one soon. When I do I will let you ladies know. But my pics in my fotki are very detailed in the folder entitled protective styling in the 2008 folder.
