Aloe Vera Juice Question

Post by Ladybird on 24th February 2011, 4:06 pm

Hey every one, hope everyone is doing well.

I want to try Aloe Vera Juice. I use Aloe Vera Gel and i want to try the juice since it is much cheaper than the gel.

So, my questions are ..When i read the ingredients it contains sugar and a whole bunch of other stuff. Is this the one that i should be using? Or is there a "Pure" Aloe Vera Juice without anything added?

Want to add the juice to my spray bottle with my oils.

Any help greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks

I use Lily of the Desert and yes, it's pure aloe vera juice. I get it from the Vitamin Shoppe. I've also seen it at Whole Foods and in the organic food section at my Kroger. It doesn't have anything but Aloe Vera Juice and citric acid (ph stabilizer).

It's organic. 32 oz of the juice was $6.99, but I'm not sure.

The man at the health food store said aloe vera juice was a laxative. Is that the one you guys are putting in your hair?

Hey Ladybird, I use AVJ all the time to spritz my hair instead of water; Water for some reason makes my scalp dry. I also mix mine with a few oils and also some honey. Make sure that you keep your spritz in the fridge.

Ladies, make sure you are checking the porosity of your hair prior to using AVJ/Gel. For those whose hair is highly porous and you live in really cold or really hot climates ie. Philly winters Sad, it can actually cause more harm to hair than good.

Aloe Vera gel/juice is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture into the hair. If you live in a very cold or hot climate, when there is little moisture in the air, a humectant will attract moisture from your hair itself, causing it to become dry. Just remember to listen to your hair Smile

I used to use Lilly of the Desert also. Not sure why I stopped using it...It was the main ingredient in my spritz and yielded great curly days... will put it back in rotation this summer Cool

So do people keep their hair sprays in the fridge? I've got some aloe vera juice (that I drink) and I want to start using some on my hair, but I'm a student! I have limited fridge space in my shared house!

Also, aloe vera juice with aloin (sp??) removed doesn't have the laxative effects.

Hi Jo, After consulting with a friend who makes all natural soaps and body butters and is a licensed herbologist t (sp), since aloe juice is basically H2O it is best to keep it in the fridge to avoid harmful bacteria. Since you're limited on fridge space, you may want to forgo making your own spritzes from it and stick with store bought spritzes for now.

BUMP

Hi, I'm new. I was going to make a new post but did the smart thing and searched first. It kind of goes with the OP's initial question, but using the Aloe Vera Drink you see in grocers, is that okay to use? I never knew it wasn't aloe vera juice/or straight aloe vera until looking for some today. I discovered it's a "drink" and yeah is like only a percentage of aloe vera, plus sugar and citric acid. Is that what some of you guys use anyway? I don't live near a Trader Joes or vitamin shop, so my options are limited atm.

that is an example of the "drinks" i ran into =\

Hey Tangled1088, first off ....welcome!!!!!

Yeah, i don't think the ones in the supermarkets are the ones for the hair. They are full of all kinds of stuff. What we need is 100% pure Aloe Vera Juice.

Hey Tangled: You can find 100% in some supermarkets, especially if they have an organic section. Make sure to read the ingredients, which should read 100% aloe vera juice or 100% aloe vera gel. Do you live by a GNC? Whole Foods? Fresh Grocer?

Awesome! Glad I asked; it would've been a waste of .99 Razz

No whole foods either Sad I mean it's a drive out to one, but I'll definitely check my closest grocery store first!
