Addressing the "dry hair" issue Empty Addressing the "dry hair" issue

It seems that this time of year brings out a lot of complaints about dry hair and lack of moisture. I have found the key to resolving this issue for my hair has been consistent deep conditioning sessions with a thick and creamy deep conditioner.

Has anyone resolved their dry hair issues without deep conditioning? If so, what are your tips. Maybe they can help out others.

The only thing that helps my hair (besides deep conditioning), is what I like to call the "1-2-3 Method".

Step 1: Lightly Spray/Mist (with water & EO's/ Watery Leave-In)
Step 2: Apply a water based moisturizer throughout hair
Step 3: Seal hair with oil (Castor oil is best for me)

And lets not forget tying my hair up while sleeping.

For my hair:
best mister: Darcy's Botanical's Herbal Leave In Spray
best moisturizer: Qhemet Biologics Amla and Olive Heavy Cream
best sealant: Castor Oil (JBCO is best)

KnottyKinkyMommy your 1-2-3 method makes a lot of sense. I'm going to try that with my products.

I really think that applying coconut oil to my hair has been paramount in helping retain moisture. I prepoo with it overnight (laziness), then wash it out in the morning in my shower (gotta multitask). I blot the excess water out, spray in my leave in conditioner, and run more coconut oil through my hair. Style as usual (I am really on the Shea moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie). I've had no problems. My hair stays moisturized (I assume it is b/c its very soft, shiny, and supple. Very smooth when stretched. No crunching...) for a good 3-4 days and its not a labor intensive thing. I know a lot of y'all live in places where it could solidify due to the temp and give you helmet hair so avocado should work also. I also am sure to keep my hair in a satin bonnet at night. HTH!

I totally agree with KnottyKinkyMommy, also:

1. Weekly deep conditioning.
2. NOT using products that isn't appropriate for the weather/season (ie. not using products with glycerin when its dry and cold).
3. Protective styles when its cold/dry and when its hot.
4. Washing twice weekly - because I sweat a lot at the gym = dry hair.
5. Pre-poo with oils or oil and food combinations (LOL) like banana, avocado mixed with coconut oil, etc.
