Problem: Hair STAYS wet!
A major problem for me has been that my hair doesn't dry for days! I have been transitioning for 5 months now and I have noticed that after I wash my hair my new growth will stay wet for 2-3 days (I am so serious) causing my head to itch like crazy and it's even started to smell after a while (making me have to wash my hair again). I am trying to stay away from heat during my long term transition but I don't think I can with my hair retaining water the way it does. Does this happen to anyone else? What do you do? I need some advice.

It happens to 4 type hair. Try scrunching with a cotton shirt after washing.

Yup I agree with deeply rooted chick. I have some 4a hair in the back of my head and it seems to take longer to dry all the time. What I do now is scrunch my hair with a tshirt and it cuts the drying time. Don't worry you're not alone.

i agree! the t-shirt trick def helps It also depends on the amount of product you're putting in your hair and when you're applying it...if you apply products to soaking wet hair, it takes longer to dry. I started drying my hair with a t-shirt, until it is damp and then applying my leave-in conditioner to damp hair. The amount of product also makes a difference...i am very heavy handed and used to saturate my hair with product. You may want to try cutting back a little on the amount that you use...finally, you may consider the style your hair is in while trying to dry...ponytails & buns conceal parts of the hair, so those sections will take longer to dry. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much ladies! I will try the t-shirt trick next time I wash!

I just want to step in an say I don't think it's a matter of curl type. Perhaps moreso the porosity of your hair. I am a 4b/a and my hair doesn't hold water at all. Like 10 minutes after washing my hair will be almost completely dry. My mom's hair is the same way and her hair is 4a/3c. I don't have any tips though. Lol. Just wanted to share.

Thanks for sharing that @Juices-n-Berries. I have found that 'listening' to my hair works a lot better than trying to place myself in hair typing categories where I can't seem to find a spot that fits my hair anyway.

I agree, the t-shirt is wonderful to remove excess water. My hair is very porous and holds a lot of water, and I too, had to learn to let my hair air dry, after using the t-shirt on it, and when its about 90% dry, apply a thin amount of coconut oil to seal in the moisture, wait until it's completely 100% dry and then add my shea butter mixture a little gel and twist.
