Black Tea Rinse Challenge
Hey chicas! Who would like to join in on a black tea rinse challenge? My hair doesn't care for protein and I don't have the time for lengthy henna sessions. So I'm opting for black tea rinses instead. I plan to add this rinse to my regimen for the next few months [at least 'till Spring & beyond if it works] in an effort achieve stronger hair. I've researched the topic extensively and I'm ready to try it.
how it works: the caffeine inhibits DHT (dihydrotestosterone, which is derived from testosterone) that causes hair follicles to shrink and eventually stop producing hair. DHT is one [of many possible culprits] that cause excessive shedding/hair loss.
Wanna give it a shot with me?

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
well i believe in not breaking my pockets while on this journey so i went to my local grocery store and bought just a generic brand of tea, boiled maybe 12 bags and let it sit and brew for a day in a glass jar. the more tea bags and time it brews the more stronger the tea and the effective the rinse. I co-washed and rinsed poured the tea into my hair slowly while combing with a wide tooth comb, i put in a leave in and let it air dry. it left my hair shiny, soft, and very very little shedding during the week

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
@got curls - thx for the support and it's great to know that it worked for you in the past. i am hoping for great results.
@pretty, Pleasee - i have read that [any] tea with a good dose of caffeine, as well as coffee for that matter, would work. teas containing a greater portion of leaf buds or tips, and fewer mature leaves contains the most caffeine. this is true whether it be black tea, green tea, white tea, or any kind of tea. the caffeine content will also depend on how the tea is brewed. using more leaf and longer steeping times will both result in more caffeine in a cup of tea. i'm using black tea b/c that's what i have on hand.
how it works: the caffeine inhibits DHT (dihydrotestosterone, which is derived from testosterone) that causes hair follicles to shrink and eventually stop producing hair. DHT is one [of many culprits] that cause excessive shedding/hair loss.
@Mandi'sGoneCurly - i purchased a box of black tea at a local grocer. you can find it in the tea section at most any grocery store. doesn't have to be a particular brand. just compare the amounts of caffeine. in order to actually see results and have something to compare i want to give this 3 months or so. i will report back with weekly and/or bi-weekly updates after wash day.
@afrolicious - yes, this challenge is to combat shedding and breakage
@Thinice - thx for joining and i hope this works out for you chica!

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
Wow ok, so it works to prevent those "see through ends"? If so that sounds good. I've done it twice before with a henna treatment and an amla & brahmi treatment. I've never just done it by itself. I was wondering if it would be too drying and would cause the ends to dry out and break. It does definitely make the hair denser and thicker, from my previous use.
How do you do it? Do you pour it over the hair leave it for 15-20 then rinse out and deep treatment?

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
the plan is to apply as a final rinse, after i deep condition. if i find that this route makes my hair crunchy or too dry, i will make adjustments accordingly.

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
Ok I 'm thinking of trying this. My questions are, how much water and how many tea bags, and do you rinse out the rinse? Thanks

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
I was using this and stopped because I would always forget to fix the tea.. I did read somewhere if you are on blood pressure medication to watch how often you use it I guess because of the caffeine..
I think I used 2 cups of water to 2-4 tea bags..

from what i've read, it depends on how 'potent' you'd like your rinse to be. 6oz of water per tea bag would be appropriate for brewing to consume. but for rinsing purposes, i think i may try 2:3 ratio.

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
Hello mizcreativelyme,
Your hairstyle is soo fly! (Sorry to change the subject). Do you have a tutorial on hairstyles on y.t. ?
I have tried the tea rinse and it did make my hair difficult to detangle after the d.c. I am still trying to find another route to take in combating shedding and breakage. I did put Amla oil in my d.c. I also have Amla oil in my daily moisture mix. The like the results that it gives, but I like to have an alternate regime to mix it up a bit.
