I need your stories! :)
Hello beautiful naturals!
A little bit about me: I've been natural for 2 years and loving it! It really changed my outlook on life (corny, I know, but true). I'm a 20 year old student in NY studying writing (journalism and fiction).
This is where i need your help...
I'm also writing an article for natural hair for journalism. When I told my professor I wanted to write it about natural hair, she replied, "I think that's shallow. That's like a white person getting high-lights," meaning it wasn't newsworthy. So I have to prove her wrong! Plus, I want a good grade and to represent naturals. I don't understand why some kid can write his article on fashion and natural hair is somehow SHALLOW! ''
I would love to get some input from people about the following:
-women professionals...
how is it being natural in the working world? What challenges do you face, if any? (where do you work?)
-women who are from the south west, midwest, or southeast area
do you think that women from these areas are less likely to go natural?
-women who have children (or interact with kids)
in your opinion, how does the euro-centric ideals of beauty-- (straight hair) affect your child? have they been teased, do they make remarks about their hair? How did you handle it?
-women who are in their 30's 40's 50's+
how have things changed, regarding the way people regard natural hair? Why do you think this is happening? Or if you think nothing is happening, why not?
-women who are historians or psychologists who could speak on the topic of natural hair
-women who wouldn't mind sharing their stories/opinions about their natural hair!
lastly, What does being natural mean to you?
If you could message me your answers with your name and where your from I'd appreciate it!

if I could get some by mid. of next week at the latest that would be great. It doesn't have to be elaborate, just honest.

you can also look at the curly journal and gather info from other people stories. be sure not to name them in your writing if you don't get permission from them.

I've only been natural for a few weeks, but I have a friend that i'm sure wont mind helping you out. She's in her 30's. I'll double check.
I'm not sure if this is relevant, we posted something on the ugly side today..

Do you only want women who are already natural or stories from women who are transitioning

Thank you everyone who has been responding. I don't care if you have locks, twists, fro's, transitioning, thinking of transitioning, or already natural, I'd like to hear all of your stories and opinions because they are important and I want to bring attention to them.
also, to the people who have been giving me source suggestions... Thank you! I think even after this investigation I would like to continue to do more research.
If you are in your 40's and 50's + i'd be especially interested.
women professionals, I need your stories!
