How often do you detangle?
Detangling?!
I use a wide tooth comb on sections of wet hair filled with conditioner, sometimes under running water but its still a difficult task. What product, methods, and styles make detangling easier?

Re: Detangling?!
I finger detangle my hair everday when I wear a wash n go or TNC. Since I sleep with it up in a high ponytail I run some water over my hands and finger comb the hair down.
If I wear my hair in a press n curl then it is detangled every night when I wrap it.

Re: Detangling?!
I only detangle on damp hair and it's usually only after I wash/co-wash. My life has been so busy that I am usually styling in protective styles - no need to detangle.
I use my wide tooth comb and some conditioner-starting at the ends and moving up to the root.

i don't use combs. i just detangle with my fingers. i do this after i untwist my two-strand twists after the co-wash/shampoo or when my hair is in the twist out or fro

Re: Detangling?!
I have recently discovered the tightly curly method and this has truly changed my life! I have never had such success and as little "sheddage" as I have experienced since I began using this technique. I am not sure if it is the Denman brush, or using regular conditioners as leave in, or the fact that I start with soaking wet hair, but it definitely works wonders for me. I am sure it is a combination of all of the above that makes it work so well. If you have not tried it, I think you should! HTH

Re: Detangling?!
I detangle with a wide tooth comb while my hair is drenched in conditioner once a week. I keep the shed hairs to check to make sure they're actually shed hairs and not breakage! I stick them to the shower wall until I'm done and collect them, let them air dry and do my check! Some people like kimmaytube from YouTube keep their shed hairs from each detangling session but I don't...
Re: Detangling?!
My shed hairs go straight down the drain. Making one of my hair care items to be Drain Pro, lol.
I have always been a heavy shedder, runs in the family but every one (before relaxer) always had super thick hair.
So how do you distinguish the shedded hairs from breakage?

Re: Detangling?!
The shed hairs will have tiny white bulbs on the end meaning they are directly from your scalp and came out at the root. the breakage will just be a broken piece of hair with no white bulb at either end. it's also good for checking for split ends because the shed hairs should have white bulb at one end and a nice blunt end at the other. There's a video demonstrating from kimmaytube actually lol. I don't want to link it on here because she's cracking down on people stealing her videos lol. But if you find her channel the name of the video is "kimmay Quick tip #5-- Is it a broken or shed hair?"
Re: Detangling?!
Whenever I wash or co-wash my hair, I detangle with my fingers. I detangle with a comb about once a month.

About once a week when my hair is out. I'll finger detangle first then soak my hair in water and conditioner and use my brush and wide-tooth comb to finish. My hair has to be soaked with conditioner for me to get my fingers all the way thru it.

Re: Detangling?!
I detangle everyday with a wide tooth comb in the shower with lots of conditioner in. Is everyday too much? My hair tangles easily.
Re: Detangling?!
I detangle about 5 days, on a good week. I'll use a spray bottle with a mixture of water, infusium-23, & glycerin (sometimes) to moisten hair then detangle in sections. Moisturize, seal, and braid/twist it up at night.
On my not so great weeks I may not touch it at all/ Then I regret it when i'm detangeling for 30+ mins. Like jamicacurl, my hair tangles easy.

Re: Detangling?!
I detangle about every other day with my fingers. On wash day, I detangle with a wide tooth comb as I apply my prepoo, & again after I deep condition it.

Re: Detangling?!
I detangle with either my jibere comb or denman brush with lots and lots of conditioner
Re: Detangling?!
I detangle every time I wet my hair, which is usually every 2-3 days. I either finger comb in the shower, use a shower comb or do the same thing as beautifuleyez - detangle with the denman and lots of conditioner.
I also have a good tip for shedding - rinsing with black tea. I read about this when lurking on LHCF. I wet my hair, rinse with cooled tea and condition last.

Re: Detangling?!
I found a way that works for me. I tried kimmaytube from youtube's videos on washing and detangling then conditioning and stretching. The part that works wonders for me is the detangling with deep conditioner, and stretching. Heres the link:

Re: Detangling?!
Since I have a TWA, I do wash-n-go's daily, so I detangle with a wide tooth comb every day.
