Success (or not) with AfroVeda
I received my Shea-Amla Whipped Butter Cream two nights ago - I was so excited about these products, and this one in particular as I had read consistently good reviews. However, my experience so far has been less than stellar - my hair seemed drier with its use, and I noticed pronounced shrinkage, even on my short hair, with little to no curl definition. I don't want to give up on it yet - is there a trick to using this product? I've used it on my hair both while wet and dry with the same results. I hate to stop with a container that is FULL, but I'm contemplating burying it in the back of the cabinet. Thougts or advice?

Re: Success (or not) with AfroVeda
I bought the sample set from afroveda. So far Ive tried all 4 of the butters for different things.
I tried the curly custard over my leave-in and under my gel for a wash & go. I also tried using the cocolatte the same way & I had major moisture but I also ALOT of white residue even though i tried my hardest to massage it all in.
I have used the shea amla for my twists and that works. it gives major moisture but no hold so I used totally twisted ginger with the shea amla and got beautiful results. It's all about trial & error, play around with you might find something that works for you. If nothing works maybe your hair hates the ingredients.
Here's a link to some youtubers who use afroveda and they tell what they use it for:

What did you buy?
I have the totally twisted butter, curly custard, pur whipped gelly and neem conditioner.
I use the butter for twisting and moisture. With the curly custard, I would apply it over my leave in then put on the gelly and if extra hold was necessary, I'd put on a hard hold gel on top.
I have used the neem once since it has protein. I need to revisit it.

Dosha and Products
LilMsPuddles wrote:did you all pick your products by the dosha quiz?
No, I looked at the ingredients and picked the ones I thought would work with my hair's overall condition. I do know my dosha, kapha. When I read the listing of the traits, it was pretty much spot on.

For those of you who got the totally twisted butter or the curly custard...did you find these to be heavy? I have read good reviews on some of these products but my hair is fine and too much butter/oil weighs it down.
I didn't take the quiz to see what would suit me best....too many questions lol!

I think the butter may be too heavy for your hair. The curly custard would likely be okay. Start with a small amount and see how it works. My hair is dense and medium textured so I need a lot of the custard. I just need a small amount of the butter when I use it.
I have used the butter and custard for WnGs. I have also used the butter for twists and twist outs. It keeps my hair moisturized nicely.

I got the butters and the Nu Milk Neroli Goat Milk Conditioner. I like the Shea alma the best. The others are just ok to me. I'm glad I got the sample sizes because I don't plan to reorder. I dont really care for the conditioner. It smells like Ivory soap and dont do much for my hair.

Re: Success (or not) with AfroVeda
Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting. I love the Shea Amla the best out of the Afroveda butters and its the only one I would repurchase. It gives me good definition for braidouts. I did not like the Totally twisted almond, it was too heavy and left my hair feeling greasy. The cocolatte did not absorb into my hair and left a white residue. The pur whipped gelly is good for a wash n go but you have to apply to soaking wet hair to make sure it absorbs. HTH

i love the shea amla butter cream. so much so that i bought the big daddy size. i usually add the butter cream in my hair after i wash and condition then add the pur whipped gelly to smooth down my edges and to get added definition.
i use less the butter cream when dry because i don't want to weigh my hair down.
i have a problem with the cocolatte. i couldn't get that stuff to absorb in my hair plus it felt funny in my hair so i gave it away to my little sister and she loved it...go figure, lol.
sorry i couldn't be much more help.

I am in love with the pur whipped Jelly..it gives my twist nice definition, I like the smell and the sheen. I have the curling custard but haven't tried it yet!
Re: Success (or not) with AfroVeda
I purchase the pur whipped gelly, curl define and the totally twisted ginger almond butter. I love the pur whipped gelly. I use it to slick down the front of my hair, it gives great hold without being hard and it didn’t flake up after using it all week. I’ve also used it to do a twist out and the twists came out pretty good and very soft. I also like the totally twisted butter to use as a daily moisturizer. The curl define (curly custard) I’m not really sure how to use as yet. I like that all of these products cost about 9 bucks and you get a lot for your money. I didn’t like how long it took to get my products after purchasing. I will be repurchasing the whipped gelly (love it) and the totally twisted ginger almond butter even with the long wait time to actual get the products.

Im loving the shikakai growth oil to use with on my scalp with my twists. It really relieves any itching and it smells great! I got the cleansing herbs (I forgot the name) and I will use that later since im on a henna and twisting regimen.
