Winter Challenge/ Hiding your hair Empty Winter Challenge/ Hiding your hair

Post by naturallychelsea 13th October 2010, 8:10 pm

Winter is fast approaching and most, if not all of us, are thinking of ways to protect our hair. Protective styling can be a bore but what if you had a whole community behind you to help you along and offer tips. Besides when you feel crummy about not looking your flyest you know there is at least one person who looks as plain jane as you Razz

But seriously I think it would be fun for us a to do a hide your hair challenge and to post pics of what we're doing and to help with the hair problems that will occur due to freezing temps. Then at the end we can post our before and after length pics. One style that I plan on rocking is twists with my ends hidden in a bun.

To give everyone a chance to figure out their regimens and hairstyle of choice I propose an official start date of October 31 and an end date of February 31

So reply if you are interested and you will be added to the list.

Sounds good. It'll keep me trying new styles and practicing for when I'm 100% natural.

I'm in been looking into maybe getting latch braids, cornrowns or braids to help with my hair.. I also thinking about getting a lace front wig that kind of looks as close to a natural hair as it can.. Smile I seen a couple on this website only thing the one I really like is $60.00 just not ready to pay that just yet.. I will get one for a lesser price for now..

I am DEFINITELY going to try your twist bun! That is hot! I also plan on getting my hair braided at some point. You know, health-wise, it's the best and easiest thing to do. I am thinking if I can keep it in for 4 weeks, give my hair (edges) a break for a week or two, and then put them back in for the most part! I have my moisturizing spritz ready for my braids (Water, glycerin, conditioner, evoo) - I used it for the first time a month ago when I had braids and when I took them out my hair was SO soft! I also washed my hair for the first time in braids using diluted shampoo and I didn't get that nasty, icky, greasy knot at the base of my braids that I used to.

... that's it for now, but I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with so I can try that in between my box braids.

That sounds awesome jw and I thought about braids but they really bug me. The scratching is too much and the heaviness (especially when wet) but I love to see some well did braids so you NEED to take pics Very Happy
I put my braids in for summer when I went on hoiday and didn't want to deal with my hair. The person who did them was inexperienced and they were huge and furry (random hairs sticking out) and after 2 weeks I took them out

I am going to attempt to put the braids in myself. I found a site http://www.growafrohairlong.com/videoplaits.html that shows you the proper way to apply braids so that you won't have damage to your hair. It's very informative even if you aren't putting them in yourself. It also has a link for safely taking out your braids. Hope this helps those of you who are putting braids in for the winter months Very Happy

I did my own extensions last weekend and I am very proud of myself. They aren't perfect lol by a long shot but they came out pretty nice. Ugh I wish I could upload pictures from my iPhone :,(
