'DRY' Braid out tips please??
hey ladies,
As some of you may be aware, i struggle with getting consistent and decent results on braid outs - they often look straggley.
One thing I have learned is that i need to finish both braids or twists into a Bantu Knot as my ends are still straighter (Transitioning).
Now Braids, I have tried on damp hair, poor results, was suggested I try wet hair, better results but dropped as braids/knots never dry in time, I had last set in for 11hrs with 15mins under the Bonnet too (which i want to avoid ideally), so...im thinking, perhaps I should try Dry Braid outs...has to worth a go right...(im determined to get a consistent Braid out as i love the finish and I get less shrinkage).
Now, I wash and condish as usual say, then I add Organix Coconut Serum (just a smudge) then Olive OIl Moisturiser which seems to be fine, then I was adding a Boots Curl Creme (Similar to puddings i think - Im UK so products vary), didnt work great, so switched to Lusters Pink Define Hold Gel - which was shocking! But to make matters worse, my hair just does not dry, and being in Knots makes it harder obviously. So when I do them on dry hair, I will add moisturiser - but do you ladies recommened a Creme/Pudding or a Gel, or just a moisturiser - I think I definately need something for hold so just moisturiser probably wont be enough, so scrap that lol.
BUt do you suggest something light, or a bit heavier product wise for dry braid outs....(hoping it works as the products will dampen hair anyways to help with shape/definition i hope!)
Sorry to waffle - thanks everyone xxxxx

If you're doing them on dry hair I would recommend a creme/pudding or even a hair milk. I wouldn't use anything too heavy. Lately when I've styled my hair when it was dry I have used a hair milk.

Thanks for the tip - i will try my curl creme in doors before popping out to buy anything else as yet then . . was going to go after work in a min, but this gives me a excuse not to go out to the shops and home to hubby (and to braid!)krazy coils wrote:If you're doing them on dry hair I would recommend a creme/pudding or even a hair milk. Re: 'DRY' Braid out tips please??
Hey peeps,
Well, I did the dry braid out, which has worked MUCH better than others and i didnt even put them into a Bantu Knot, so sleeping was comfier!
However, my ends are straggly as I have to band mine as they start to unravel otherwise.
However, I got the more crinkled/wavy definition i have been eagerly chasing, but they are dropping really fast, plus i got a tiny bit rained on getting in and out the car on my way to work just now!
So i defo need something stronger hold wise (will maybe try a gel?) and maybe just pin the ends of get some foam rods as flexi rods I dont like, they slip where my hairs shorter.
BUT despite looking straggly, I see this as potentially leading to some success with my Braid out, I now think, Dry Hair, hopefully Gel, and curl the tips and i should get some success.
Here is a dodgy pic as i sneakily took it in the office before someone see and wondered why i'd be snapping myself ha ha...so bad but with good learning potential me thinks, DRY braids look like the way to go for me...!

Hey i went to the loo and noticed hair looks far less curly in the pic than it is, (the ends are killing it big time, so straight!) but here is a pic of the side)
It does look like its dropped as i thought, feels heavy, think it doesnt help i had product on from 1st braid out on Mon eve as well - left hair a bit heavy!

It looks like you are learning what your hair needs for your perfect braidout. It looks great to me, but as for the straggley ends, rods can help. Also, try washing out of the products you've put in and start over. Use a gel styler with moisture (but not too much) and the rods. Hope this helps.

Cheers Jackie - oh how fun the relaxed ends are, but since i dont want to BC this time, i guess I have to work with them!
I'll try a Moisturising Gel - Thanks for tip, also want to try the Fructis Curl Sculpting Gel CN's been using but not seen it as yet here in UK but sure i'll find it as we have loads of Fructis products! xx

Hello from across the pond! Those straight ends will throw a wrench in your style quick! Try a setting lotion that is alcohol free on the last inch of your hair and try setting the hair on perm rods.
