Braid Out Question Empty Braid Out Question

Post by NaturalUK 17th January 2010, 8:10 pm

Hi,

Whe you do a braid out...how long do you leave the braids in? What products do you use before braiding? And will it work on previously relaxed hair (mine is half/half)?

Braid Out Question Empty Re: Braid Out Question

It will work on transitioning hair (relaxed and natural). I used to do them on mine and it works really well for blending textures. I would braid wet hair and take it down whenever it dried (air dried). Not sure what products you could use, I wasn't really use much back then except hair mousse which I no longer use.

Braid Out Question Empty Re: Braid Out Question

For my braid outs, I use diluted lottabody (setting lotion) on my relaxed ends to get them to take the shape of the braid. Then use rod rollers with paper for the ends. The lottabody and water are in equal parts in a spray bottle. Click on my link below to see pics of that style and many others over my transitional journey. All styles were achieved by my own hand (no salon visits) and without heat.

Braid Out Question Empty Re: Braid Out Question

I am currently 4 months into my tranisition. Braid outs have been a staple style for me because it is so easy to create. Currently, I achieve the look by using curly junkie hibiscus and banana honey leave in conditioner after sepearting my hair into 11 sections. Apply the leave in and plait using perm rods on the end. Style comes out great each time. Oh and to make sure my hair is completely dry I sit under a hooded dryer for atleast an hour.

Braid Out Question Empty Re: Braid Out Question

Post by NaturalUK 20th January 2010, 11:04 am

Ok well tried the braid out today and pleasantly surprised by the result...i washed my hair then did a hot oil treatment with water & olive oil. I then rinsed and shampoo'd and conditioned. I then towekl dried it and added an Aussie leave in conditioner and coconut oil daily conditioner before braiding it.

This morning I have put some IC Fantasia serum over the braids and taken out...this is the result...

Braid Out Question Empty Re: Braid Out Question

I do braid outs. My hair is not relaxed, but I do have a few straighter textures (2c/3b)! I spray conditioner and oil mix to dampen previously dry hair and then add curly nikki's setting lotion mix. I do a braid on each side going from my crown and two in the back going from my crown. I seal the ends with castor oil and set on a flexi rod using end papers. When I wake up I take them down being careful not to disturb the curl at the end. I use my hands to fluff the roots, in order to cover the parts and Voila! Sorry so long Smile

Your braidout looks super moisturized!

I do braidouts also. When I was transitioning I used Qhemets Amla heavy cream which I still use. I also wait until it has airdried and then remove the braids

@ TerraD and IB, why do you ladies use end papers? I've heard people using end papers on flexis and perm rods but haven't heard why

It prevents single strand knots! Or at least for me, it does!

Be careful using towels on your hair. The tiny lops can pull which will cause frizz and possibly damage. A lot of people (me included) use t-shirts to dry the hair. I actually first heard of it from Jada Pinkett's regimen and with all that money, if she uses t-shirts there must be a reason, lol.

Braid Out Question Empty Re: Braid Out Question

I get a pack of towels from the beauty supply and use those. They are paper and very strong. I actually have a better result using those than microfiber or tshirts. And I just toss them or hang them to dry and reuse...they are that strong!

Hmmm, are they called towels? In what section can I find them?
