im obssessed with my hair

so my hair is cut like hallie berry in strickly bussines and im trying to now grow my per out. i work out 4 times a week and have a busy schedual i feel like this style is just to high matinence for me this is my first time having short hair! when i curl it i go to the gym it gets messed up then i also dont want to put heat on it every day but when i try to just wrap it that doesnt work well and when my hair is not done i just feel blah! im also broke so i cant get braids i just want to chop it of but im kinda scared i only have about an inch of new growth. any suggestions?
