When is it going to happen?
Ok so I bc'd June 27, 2010 and this is what my hair looks like today
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I love my hair, but at the end of the day, it always looks like a curly fro; no matter what hair style I do, it never looks like the pictures b/c it just ends up looking like a curly fro. Basically my question is, when is my hair going to start growing down instead of out?

Re: When is it going to happen?
I have this same question about my daughter's hair. She's 11 and wants her hair to fall like mine but it just poofs out. When stretched, her hair is shoulder length but you'd never know it because of how it shrinks up and poofs out. Any encouraging words I can pass along?

Your hair may never stay down without manipulation by style or product. Ways to help it stay down include creating a holding product with a gel and oils. Many use EcoStyler gel to do so. Banding also helps the hair lay down. Twist and braid styles can help you achieve the down and out style you desire.
Re: When is it going to happen?
I was just going to post this very same topic. I know my hair is going to grow down because the back is already hanging followed by the front slowly making its way down. But THESE DANG SIDES refuse to lay down. There are two patches on both sides that are about 4a. The rest is 3c. Im guessing it will hang perfectly in a few more months.
Re: When is it going to happen?
My hair is finally starting to fall. I've been natural 13 months today. I didnt have as much hair as you when I BC'd. I only had about an inch and half of hair.

@CurlyQueso: Your curly fro is beautiful! Sometimes you have to train your hair to do what you want. Try Styles that make your hair fall/weigh downward like braids or twists.
@Lynnieluve: Your fro is beautiful too! Do you have a Fotki or blog?

Re: When is it going to happen?
I know it's a thread out here on that. But I am one of those hair won't hang folks. My twist outs are half way tamed the first day but the next day and as days go on it gets bigger and bigger. I have to admit on products, gel works good, but Bee Mine Curly Butter gives me the best "tamed" results.
My wash and go's do the same curly puff effect by the end of day 1 sometimes and definitely by Day 2. I have learned to love my inner Chaka (Khan - is what I call my hair).
Believe me, more people than you know will envy you! But if you want some "lay down" to your hair, putting in twists or box braids, etc. is going to be the ticket.

Re: When is it going to happen?
I have the opposite problem. My hair hangs when I want it to stick up around my head like a curly fro. Whether it's a twist out, braid out or a bantu knot out my hair just hangs.... even a wash n go... SMH!

@ Curly Queso- Beautiful curly fro. Your hair may begin to drop with length as your hair grows. Twistouts and braidouts can assist with some hang but hang usually comes with more length.

I figure the longer your hair, the more it will fall. Then again texture plays a part as well. Play with different products and see if anything changes. I also think shape and cut can make a difference, but I LOVE your curly fro girl so rock it with confidence!!
Re: When is it going to happen?
A great haircut can help. What products do you use? Perhaps the products you are using are too heavy for your hair.HappigocurliJenn wrote:I have the opposite problem. Re: When is it going to happen?
@ Chrslvsbks--- I'm debating about cutting my hair. Because I dislike doing my hair I tend to keep it longer so I can throw it back in a bun... idk yet
For products: I can't remember the shampoo I use.... conditioner is Aussie moist 3 minute miracle and for styling C/D's Healthy hair butter and I seal with coconut oil.

Re: When is it going to happen?
I think your hair is fantastic! Makes me want to stick my hands in it! I would be one of those people that asks "Can I touch it?" lol
Re: When is it going to happen?
LOL I always get "I just want to rub my face in it" from my co-workers (they are white so I'm assuming they are not used to people with natural hair)

OK, your curly fro is too cute!!
I can't say when your hair will begin to hang, but have fun discovering that milestone! The "hang" will sneak up on you!!
