Re: The OFFICIAL 3m GROWTH CHALLENGE Pt 2..Sept 6-Dec 31
Hey All I thought I'd post early.
I just re-did my natural braids about four days ago and I'm happy to say that I nailed down a hair routine. Since I started the challenge I trimmed about 3 inches of hair off, so I don't think I have any length to show for it. But my hair is healthy, I've gotten rid of most of my single strand knots and I've come to terms with the rest I'm not going to be around on the 31st so I thought I post now.
My new routine:
-Wash once a week with suave clarifying shampoo (I dilute it with water)
-Deep condition once a week with suave tropical coconut conditioner & coconut oil
- Once a month I deep condition on dry hair with aubrey organics honeysuckle rose conditioner
-use shea moisture coconut style milk as my leave-in
-use afroveda's shea alma to braid or twist
- When my hair is in braids/ twists (which is most of the time) i spritz with shea moisture hair milk diluted with water and some grape seed oil
My hair has been maintaining softness with this routine without feeling greasy. I really enjoyed the challenge and will continue to stay with my new routine (no more product junkyism). The only thing I need work on is taking my multivitamins!
My hair near the beginning of the challenge: (september, 30th) - I can't find any earlier pictures

It was nice participating with all of you!

Re: The OFFICIAL 3m GROWTH CHALLENGE Pt 2..Sept 6-Dec 31
I just woke up in a panic because I forgot to post my results. Here is the before at 12.25 inches in the back. I measured before I put the roller on the end.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
This is after at 14.5 inches. I had to put the camera on timer to take the pic since hubby is asleep.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
This pic has nothing to do with the challenge but I wanted to add it in hopes that it will keep hope alive for some of the newbies. This pic is from November of 2009. Just 13 short months ago.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Summary
Starting length - 12.25
Ending length - 14.5
Length gained - 2.25 inches
WHAT I DID
-Cowashed my TST everyother day, put coconut oil on after, sealed with sunflower oil (it was cheap)
-did three henna treatments
-massaged my scalp
-kept my hair covered at night
-Wore twistouts from the beginning of the challenge to 1 dec 10
-Stayed in twists for 30 days
-Had 1 growth spurt
-Cut 3100+ split ends in a search and destroy gone amok
-Cut 1.5 inches before the challenge because I was clueless (I am learning)
I went into this challenge in hopes of just finding a routine. I was not expecting any growth. I am happy that I am finding what works and I gained some length too.
PRODUCTS USED
Conditioner-I played with some but I mainly used Sonoma condish (because I need to use it up)
Henna-Jamila twice and Karishma for the last one
Conditioner after henna-Skala and Skala air mask
Shampoo-Nyle Herbal
Oils-coconut, sunflower
Butters-none
Misc-I used aloe vera a couple of times in the Kimmaytube mix but I did not use that recipe alot.

Re: The OFFICIAL 3m GROWTH CHALLENGE Pt 2..Sept 6-Dec 31
Hey Ladies,
Thanks so much for participating in my challenge. I have learned so much from all of you, and hopefully you've been able to learn a few things for yourself. From the pics I've seen, looks like you guys were able to accomplish some growth....KUDOS!!
I'll be washing my hair this week with Aussie Moist (thanks Lynnie for the recommendation...I like it), and will post my end results then.
On another note, I will be starting school tomorrow to further my RN career, so not sure how much visibility I'll have on the boards. Also contemplating cutting off my hair sometime soon. The journey has been a great one, but the freedom I once had w/short BC is no longer there with my current length and I miss that. But know that whatever I decide to do, I'll post pics to let you know
Continued success on your hair journey!!!

Here is where I was in Dec 09 (BSL):
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
But my ends were damaged, so I've been giving myself trims. Didn't realize I whacked off so much
Well here is where I was at the beginning of this challenge (APL):
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
My goal was to make it back to 7.5 or close by the end of this challenge.
Here is my length now:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I would say that this challenge was a success

Re: The OFFICIAL 3m GROWTH CHALLENGE Pt 2..Sept 6-Dec 31
Hi Curlies,
I know I am SUPER late, but better late than never.
I got my hair straightened and trimmed and the girl trimmed 2 inches off my hair. My previous dye (prior to my BC was still hanging on my ends causing the ends of my hair to be a little more damaged than I would have liked, but I'm glad they are gone. Well next month I think I may let her trim the last half an inch off.)
Starting Measurements:
Left Side: 4.25 inches
Right Side: 4.25 inches
Front: 4 inches
Top of my head: 5.5 inches
Back: 4-4.5 inches
END RESULTS:
Left Side: 5.5 inches
Right Side: 5.5 inches
Front: 5.25 inches
Top of my Head: 6.5 inches
Back: 5 inches
This was fun, it has challenged me to go into this new year with the goal of perfecting a routine and maintaining length and continuing to strive on this journey! Thank you all for your help and I love looking at all of the great growth results!

Re: The OFFICIAL 3m GROWTH CHALLENGE Pt 2..Sept 6-Dec 31
I'm super late as well, but when I began this challenge my hair was right at 3 1/2- 4 inches and my hair is 5- 5 1/2 inches. Considering that I trimmed my hair 3x during the challenge, I am pleased with the growth and retention. I was also able to settle into a routine somewhat and find products that really work for my hair. I now know that shea butter is a "no, no" but castor oil is for my hair. I also learned that my hair needs to be watered frequently and shampooed atleast once a week. December 30 marked my 6th month natural and I feel much more confident entering the next 6 months with what I have learned. Thanks for all your help ladies and congrats on reaching your goals. Happy growing and God bless!

My final check in is at 1 inch of growth using the Bee Mine Growth Serum, so there was no help from using the growth serum
