Humidity and hair

The air conditioner in my office sporadically breaks, especially during the summer. So my work office tends to get extremely humid when this happens. Now, for years I've been under the impression that in humidity "our" hair shrinks.... except mines falls. I live in Wisconsin, so it's not like I deal with humidity all the time. Can someone explain this? Why does my hair go from curly to straight in humid conditions???
