dye release in frozen henna
Okay, I henna'ed last Thursday. After I mixed my henna, I waited about an hour then applied it to my hair and slept. I had so much left over and I immediately put in the freezer before the dye had a chance to fully release. I want to thaw it out to use this week. Do I have to wait after it thaws for the dye to release or can I use it right away?

Re: dye release in frozen henna
I freeze my henna all the time. The jagged ice crystals actually help release the dye in the henna. Normally, I pop my henna mix in the freezer as soon as I am done mixing it. It only takes about a half hour to thaw if you place your container in a water bath.
So to answer your questions, the dyes have been released during the freezing process and yes you can use it as soon as it's done thawing.
Good luck!!

Re: dye release in frozen henna
I tried the mixing and freezing immediately method that popsbaby mentioned on my last hennaing session. I did wait a week or so before I was ready to use the frozen mix but applied it as soon as it was thawed. The colour deposit on my greys was phenomenal. Would do this again!

I have started mixing my henna weeks in advance, placing it in the freezer after dye release. I allow it to thaw in the fridge for a day and have noticed that my grays have more color deposit when I leave the henna on for 5-8 hours. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
