Need Help With Trying a Chunky Twist Out/Fro
My 'fro is usually pretty round (I hadn't realized my BC cut was so precise). I want to try a chunky 'fro. Can anyone give me some tips on how I can do that and elongate (I have about 90% shrinkage which is fine but I'd like a little length with this style). Should I twist wet or dry? Which products might work best? etc. Thanks!
Here a a couple of pics of my hair in various stages.
Fresh from the shower length check

Same length blow dried

I'd like something like the last pic but way chunkier/funkier

There are a few tutorials on youtube that might help you out.
When a want a chunky fro I do big two strand twists all over when my hair is mostly dry. If my hair is already dry, I spritz it lightly with some water.

Re: Need Help With Trying a Chunky Twist Out/Fro
Hi! I have a video on my Youtube channel of a Chunky Twistout i wore a while back. I was twisting my hair dry for the longest time, i am now doing it damp. It is curliest when it is done on damp hair, but it is not going to show as much length. To help with that, i use hair pins to hold it down which will elongate it. The thing with the "chunky" part of it was making some twists big and some smaller. I think you should first try it on dry hair using a good product for moisture. I like Oyin Handmade's "Whipped Pudding". When i do my twists now, i use castor oil only, but i use it when my hair is damp and i am twisting. But if you do opt to do it on dry hair, it will elongate your hair more. Hope that helps a little
Re: Need Help With Trying a Chunky Twist Out/Fro
I have a video on Youtube that shows the way my chunky twists look. It's not a tutorial, but I think your hair is longer than mine. I do it on damp hair, but to get it BIG it might be better to do it on dry hair, but my dry twists don't really stay and then it turns into a fuzzy fro. What I've noticed is that it is best to pull (not hard) a little while doing the twists, they will shrink, but as it gets old they just get bigger and bigger and just grab the hair in many directions, no set parts. Hope it helps.

I forgot to say to take the twists out, but I guess that may have been a given. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
