i am able to not have to trim so much because i moisturize like its going out of style. i just trim when needed. i have really kinky hair, and thus, my hair is very prone to being dry which means prone to knots and breakage. moisturizing and sealing really helps my hair slide between one another if i get a knot. thus, retaining/growing hair.

Once a year... since I stopt straighting my hair I don't have much split ends. When my straight all the time, I let cut my hair dry and straight. Now I let cut my hair wet and in a model that is perfect with curls but also nice when I straight my hair Very Happy I'm happy with my hair cut!

I fell victim to the flat iron a couple of months ago to have my sister clip my ends after being heat free for over a year and a half. I now realize that it wasn't necessary. What I should've done is band my hair. While its still wet you'll want to separate it into however many sections your prefer. Put hair bands(not rubberbands) around each section of hair, down the full length of your hair and let it dry. When its done drying your hair will be stretched and you can get a more accurate idea view of your hairs length and get an even cut if that's what your going for.

Heres a youtube link for banding. You don't have to use as many bands as she did down the length of your hair to get the same result. She used A LOT! lol. Banding Method

I have trimmed my hair dry in its curly state. I think that works better if you wear your hair curly so you can immediately see what it's going to look like. Only thing about that is that if you do straigthen your hair from time to time, there may be parts that are uneven that may or may not be noticeable.

I've trimmed my hair wet myself. I cut knots as needed. If I feel I need a trim I'll do it on twists or as I'm doing my hair when its still sectioned from detangling.

My hair was last trimmed in September. After putting twists in, I clipped the ends. I am not concerned with it being even, as it doesn't grow even anyway.

@africanlatina, that banding process is serious. I am still a newbie to all this. I am fasinated at all the different techniques used for all different styles. I have so much more to learn once I finally do the BIG CHOP.

I've only trimmed my hair straight, but I considering doing the twist and cut that others have mentioned here. Mostly because I almost never wear my hair straight, so it really doesn't matter if it's even or not. But if I wore my hair straight more often, then I'd defnitely get it cut straight.

I just had my hair trimmed this morning utilizing the 2 strand twist and snip the ends off method. Trimming the twist in the back proved to be a challenge so I solicited help from someone i trusted. I agree, if you're not worried about the eveness(don't know if that's a word) of your hair, this is simple yet efficient method to trim your ends.

I cut my hair this September. I did it when it was curly. I don't plan to wear my hair straight often. My hair was not growing even. I wanted to reduce my volume so I cut each curl in order to achieve the look I wanted.

I plan to trim when needed. You can really tell what needs trimming when in twists. You can also find knots and split ends more easily. If your hair is not reacting to products as it typically does, you may want to check ends.

The key is to be patient, if you do it yourself. Invest in shears and do not use them for anything else.

I don't have a set schedule, right now I'm just doing as I go. However, I definitely know you should trim while curly, so you can get a picture of what your hair looks like then. If you cut incorrectly while it's straight it'll look funny when it curls back up
