AshElleAye: The Fro Chronicles
Hey! I'm new here and I couldn't resist making a Curl Street Journal.
Anyway, here's my hair story...
I was natural back in 2008 during my senior year of high school and my first semester of college but my hair was hidden under braids and sew-ins. I started college with braids and towards the end of the semester, I took them out and I had a fro. I was intrigued. I considered keeping the fro until some my friends saw it and made a few jokes. Although I knew they weren't trying to be malicious, the attention made me self conscious and I decided to ask my mom for a relaxer. My mother was totally against the idea but she did it anyway and my hair went from this....
to this.....
I regretted it almost immediately but I stuck with the relaxer until the end of my sophomore year in college. I began my transition in October 2009. Originally, I was going to transition without a big chop but impatience and a bad hair weekend got the best of me. I bc'd on May 28, 2010 after a seven month transition and it feels great!

Re: AshElleAye: The Fro Chronicles
I wasn't talking about the V-103 thing but I did read an article on it and it was interesting to say the least....
But here's my gripe with Essence Magazine.
Me and Essence have been having a love hate relationship for the last couple of years because I think the content is going down hill. I think they mean well but they're very disconnected when it comes to some of our interests. Including natural hair. Anyway, they had a natural hair chat yesterday. They had been advertising it for days and I was kinda excited, especially when I heard Chrisette Michele was going to be one of the guests. Well, the chat left much to be desired. The advice wasn't that great. I get much better advice from CN and other blogs. There was too much product placement. One of the guests kept pushing some expensive oil. My biggest problem was how restricted the conversation was. The chatters barely got a word in edgewise. Only a few comments made it through and they were mostly questions that can be answered by going to blogs. People were being blocked because they actually answered questions. Essence missed the mark. It pissed me off so bad that I'm actually trying to put together a chat of my own.
Did anyone else get on Essence chat? What did you think?

AND...after a lot of procrastination, I'm doing my first co-wash today. Hope it turns out right! I'll post my results!

I did my first co-wash....
And my hair feels awesome! It's so soft and I feel no dryness! My scalp is still itchy but I think I'm still getting over a reaction I had to a product I used a week ago. Tips on that would be helpful. lol. Overall, the experience was wonderful. I loved it and I'm definitely going to start doing it consistently.
I used Creme of Nature Chamomile and Comfrey as my conditioner of choice and Curl and Nextimage Curl and Wavy as a leave-in.
Anyway, on to the pics!
After the wash....
After deep conditioning....
Finished Product.....
I'm so proud of myself!

I must say....
I'm getting better at my two strand twisting! Just finished another set. I was upset at how dry my hair had gotten (dunno if it was from being in that sun or my conditioner) and I decided to start twisting. I might just leave it this way for a while and just fine tune if they start getting fuzzy.
Time for pics....

Re: AshElleAye: The Fro Chronicles
My chat went pretty well. Thinking about making it a weekly thing. We'll see. I think I'm going to try Herbal Essences products to wash my hair since I've heard so many great things about the line. I would like some opinions on that.

My name is Ashleigh....
And I'm addicted to twist outs! I can't get enough of that curly fro! I just love it. It has also became my boyfriend fave style of mine. I don't want to get stuck in a rut so I need ideas! My profile pic is of my latest twist out. My hair is being deep conditioned right now and I plan on twisting and doing the twist out again! lol
I'm also considering attempting a rollerset but I'm scurred b/c I haven't put a lick of heat in my head since I bc'd!
AND I think I need to switch conditioners because I think this creme of nature is drying me out a bit. So suggestions would be lovely for that too!
Sorry for the rambling post but I had to put all of that out there! lol
