Flat Braids?!
I was wondering if anyone here knows how to do flat braids?
I have never heard of these before, and I have never seen them done like this to where they are ALL the way shifted to one side (the large ones)

I googled and the only thing I could find was something about tying knots in strings. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I thought maybe I would only add hair to either the left piece or the right piece but I couldn't even get that technique down because I'm so used to adding only to the middle piece so I just kind of winged it. Here is my attempt:

I was pleased with the results but it doesn't look anything like theirs!
I guess if all else fails I'll send them a message and see if they respond. lol
Thanks! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Flat Braids?!
Hey Nik
I actually do this on my own hair by accident [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] They called it "underbraiding" when I was younger and my friend from Belize calls it "armadillos braids" because of how they look. I do them on my own hair without meaning to, but they just come out like that when I am braiding, altho on someone else's hair I can do the "regular" cornrows. I'm going to try and practice and see exactly how I manage to do this to my hair, once I pay attention to how to braid...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I need instructions.
I do my cornrows underhanded, is that what you mean? I mean I was able to shift them to the side I wanted them but its not all the way shifted. Hmmm...

I don't have anything to say about the braids (I can't cornrow to save my life! lol) I just wanted to say that, as usual, I am DROOOOOOOOLING at A's hair in that avatar. Oh my gosh! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I guess flat braids are the same as cornrows but with added weave to make it look fuller. I just don't get how they get it all the way to the side, lol. I guess it takes practice.

I am no help put I think you did a great job on A's hair. That first link you posted was the bomb. If I could do my hair like that womans then you would not be able to tell me ish. I would think I was soooo fine! Your daighters hair is so gorgeous and thick!
Re: Flat Braids?!
I have never heard of them, but from what I see close up, gel is added to smooth the hair into a wave, and then you braid at the bottom of the wave. They look very nice. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Flat Braids?!
Basically instead of pulling the hair all tight straight down the middle you only cornrow the ends of the hair instead of the whole strand. Don't know if that really made sense . Hope it helped! I have mini twists in right now, but i can try to make a how to video
