College Curlies!

So I have noticed that alot of the people on the CN website document their hair journey's and I really don't have a detailed hair journey cuz I have been natural my whole life, but i have never really embraced my natural curls! Like I have said in other posts, I wore my hair in braids, twists, and I loved to straighten my hair! (can somebody say HEAT DAMAGE!!!)

I straightened my hair every day and the hot comb was my best friend when it came to those stubborn edges honey l0l!

As much as a I begged my ma to buy me a relaxer or perm she told me, "Child u r not gettin one until u leave this house!" and I'm glad I never got one because as of February 2010, I decided to embrace my natural curls:) A friend of mine always wanted me to wear my hair in a fro and I thought why not?!? so I did it!

So now that I am going to college, I want to document my natural hair journey as a high school curly to a college curly:)

As of now, I've been wearing a protective style (flat twists about 9 going back in a straight line) in my hair for 3 days straight and I have been itching to take it out! So tomorrow I will reveal the look and see how it came out?!?

I was also natural my whole life... until homecoming. IDK i just let the lady slap a texturizer in my hair thinking that it would be ok because I wouldn't have bone straight hair like a perm. :[ Still, the texturizer made me that much more in love with my natural hair and caused me to take really good care of it in the past few months (can you say henna & shea butter??)

I never really cared about length (I would always randomly cut 2-3" of my hair and freak out my friends) but I've decided that I want to grow my hair out for college woot woot! I want my hair to be armpit length with bantu knots

I'm not a big fan of protective styling because I've done that most of my life so I think I'll just focus on getting as much moisture into my hair as possible.

i have splits ends cuz of my ex-bestfriend (hot comb/straightner)
and i have been slowly trimming them away (every 6 weeks)!!
but right now i'm ready to chop them off every 2 weeks l0l!

and i know what ya mean about the whole protective styles! i have been doing that my whole life but just not inthe proper way.
and now that I am trying them again I feel like I look 3 yrs younger?!?

oh an excuse my use of exclamation points... i just love using them!!! l0l!!

I used to have so many split ends... hence the random chops of hair... I tell u wearing puffs everyday with no moisture = so stupid

and I feel ya on the puffs!
cuz i tried to rock a puff for 3 weeks once without the proper moisture for my hair and when i went to get a trim at the salon
the hair lady was asking me why my hair was so rough! l0l
i had no logical explanation for her!
that was when i really had to start taking care of my hair fo real!

Yeah, I hated goin to salons because it seems like they would always try to roast on my hair. Good news though, I went for a cut 2 weeks ago and the guy was all like "Omigaw your hair is so soft n I luv the color" and I was kinda like thanks...

Lol I really appreciated the compliment but the way he said it threw me a lil... It was so feminine!

the same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago except it was a lady and her daughter!
and they stared me down for a hott 3 minutes! and were just looking at my hair
then they decided to come into the salon and compliment me then they proceded to get the hair stylists card! and i was like she hasnt done anything to my hair yet!! this is all me!! i did this.. dont let her take credit l0l

I think the reason ppl like our natural hair so much is cause it's unique. I mean all my friends permed their hair and my hair really stands out in pictures... and blocks people's faces sometimes :p

cuz the first time I wore my natural curly hair out in public (Twist n curl)
ppl were tryna get their fingers all up in my hair! (It was Sunday @ church)
n after church i went to a party and i've never been hit on that much in my life...
i never got that much attention when i straightened my hair?!?

yea I'm never putting another chemical in my hair. [srry i just get random *sigh* moments when I think about my awesome natural hair ]

aw i feel for ya! but u will have awesome completely natural hair soon enough!

and no i havent had time to go to the store and buy henna:(
maybe i'll go tomorrow and henna next week on a Monday

I'm going to Jamaica next week friday so I'm trying to henna as much as possible until then (maybe 3 times) because my family's really loud and vocal and I know they wont be cool with green goop on my head lol

I also gotta transfer the phone #s on my phone onto my iPod so I can use the txtfree thing (cuz I dnt get signal there)

AWW this is cute! im glad that you both are starting to embrace your hair! Lucky for you! i JUST started embracing and caring for it and ive been natural for 2.5 years. ANd being in college myself i thought made it harder to embrace...but after a while i just decided to let my hair out. And its been out ever since. These websites really do help a TON with being able to manage ur hair, esp on a college budget. so continue to use these Good luck to you both! u ladies seem very wise beyond your years

Awww! thanks! ur compliments made my day! LOL yeah facebook is not my thing anymore LOL im still on but...mainly for the class mates and sorority sisters. I got FSU graduate this december where are u going to college?

I was deciding between UF and UNC Chapel Hill but north carolina won out
I'm kinda nervous cause I'll be literally 400 miles away from home

woot woot! lol jamaica is the best and except for the crime thing I wouldn't want to be anywhere else this summer

the straightening comb has also been my best friend throughout my highschool years in fact it was an every 2wk thing bcuz my mother didnt want 2 deal with my curlies and it was easier for me to deal with my hair straightened. Another contributor was that my friends would always be excited 2 c my hair straightened bcuz it was so lengthy. These natural hair sites especially this one have really helped me in dealing with my hair especially now that i am in college. I've been able to manage my hair more efficiently and creatively without damaging it. I agree with you afrochic about the stares lol... It's awesome tho lol

aww! UNC! thats wassup! i wish u luck...any thing is better thank UF ( cant u tell im a seminole LOL). Distance is good tho...makes the heart grow fonder...im not THAT far away from home, but i do miss it and i really enjoy my fam when i do go home to see them

@ naturallygifted wow you're 17 in college too? lol i didn't think much of it when my parents made me skip a grade but it's kinda funny to think of how young I'm going to be compared to everyone else
