Re: First Curly Summer!
sooooo I did a braid out today and it came out looking raggedy. lol its only my second one so that might be why but i put a big black headband on and pinned the ends up and it is too cute. i tried to send the pic to my computer from my phone so i could post it, but its not working right now. but it was a great idea! my hair is out without being on my neck.
Re: First Curly Summer!
I wish i could do braid outs on my hair. I've tried to do them twice and they came out looking horrible! I ended up putting mine in a ponytail:(

ebbz: great!!! im so glad i could help
afrochic: i know what you mean. braid outs always come out extremely frizzy. according to my mothe my head looks more like a brillo pad than curls so i stick to twist outs. easier to do anyways lol

I've been juicin' it up plus spraying water in my water. Works like a charm. My hair is super soft and moisturized.

Re: First Curly Summer!
Afrochic, even though I was planning on keeping my hair straight for another week or so I couldn't take it and washed it out today. *Sigh* I suppose it's for the best though. My hair really needed a deep conditioner and the shea butter just sat on my hair and made it look greasy 0.o
So long story short? Henna wrap on my head right now

Re: First Curly Summer!
thanks! I tried it again today but I didn't have enough time to let it dry because I got out of class at 10:30 last night and I was leaving to go around town with my bf at 2 so it was just limp and not working out. I'll try again Wednesday night and leave it in until I go to class Thursday night.
Has anyone ever used Garnier Fructis Leave In? Sleek and Shine? I just bought it and I can't wait to use it.

Re: First Curly Summer!
I'm very clueless when it comes to this type of weather. I went through my first winter without dandruff, but with this heat I'm flakin up. That seems so backwards to me, and I'm at a loss. I have been working so much that I basically have my hair twisted up two weeks at a time, and let them out a week in between. I shampoo once a week then condition. I use an olive oil conditioning treatment in the middle of the week. HELP What am I doing wrong?

Re: First Curly Summer!
Well, I just BCd yesterday, and I'm getting my hair put in braids tomorrow, so I'm not going to be sure how the heat/humidity affects my hair for another 4-5 weeks, but I'm so excited to be fully natural that I had to post this!! I'll be looking here for ideas though.

Re: First Curly Summer!
@ LivinandLovin Congrats!!
One thing though if you're not familiar with braids please do your research and please, please, pleaseee don't make the same mistakes I did. I had rope twists 2 years ago in the summer and I must say I will never ever do it again. I did them waay to small, the lady used spritz (which contributed to the breaking of my hair), and I didn't moisturize or maintain my hair while in the twists. I ended losing half my hair in volume when I pulled them out and the ends were super uneven and knotted...
I really didn't mean to be frightening btw, I just want you and your newfound curlies to get off to the best start possible

Re: First Curly Summer!
I gave up on finding it in a store
buy it from coastal scents. It was around $15 (tax & shipping included) and there are a lot of CN members who back that site up

Re: First Curly Summer!
Since i'm just seeing this post you probably already have the braids in but make sure they are not too tight around the edges. If they are, take them out and get them re done or re do them yourself if you know how. Oil your scalp at least every other day and moisturized your braid with any moisturizer. I would suggest care free curl or Hawaiian Silky 14n1.
