"Hand in Hair Disease" Empty "Hand in Hair Disease"

I've heard of this numerous times. "It's not good to play in your hair" and the "Hand in Hair Disease". Some of the girls over in the Natural Teens post and I are looking for answers on why this is such a bad thing. So ladies, please inform us, if you can.

P.S. I have a very bad habit of doing this while sitting in class.

Over-manipulation can cause dry hair, knots, and tangles. At least, I think so.
