Itchy Scalp Anyone?
Is it me, but I have always had an itchy and dry scalp,,,, why is that?
My scalp use to peel and flake. When I would scratch my scalp with a comb, it was like pulling corn flakes off my scalp. I would have to pull the peeling skin through my hair to my ends to get rid of it because it was too big to flake off. I could see the tiny holes my hair made in the skin when I pulled it off. Sound yucky,,,but oh so true. I still suffer with that to this day.
What can I do to remedy the problem?

My hunny had the same thing and it made my skin crawl the first time I pulled it off. I seriously just got that feeling again thinking about it. It didn't start until I start locing his hair. What helped his was doing ACV rinses when he washed his hair in addition to oiling it with an almond oil/rosemary/peppermint oil mix.

OMG!!! Exact same situation here. I have tried everything and nothing is working on his head. I am going to try what you did and I hope that helps. One of those flakes got in my eye one time....I thought I was going to lose my eyeball. Is there anything else I should know or do? Any specific brands to use?
Re: Itchy Scalp Anyone?
Tia...From what our research told us it partly has something to do with the scalp being too dry--ie. needing moisture. There is a myth that you aren't supposed to wash your hair when locing but that isn't the case. Washing your hair helps to remove all of the dead skin, sebum, dirt and debris from your scalp.
Loveself...how often are you washing your scalp?

The exact same thing happened to me after I got my hair dyed and my final perm in July! I just shampooed frequently and oiled my scalp and it lessened (shampoo with sulfur in it might help, make sure to lightly scratch your scalp when washing to make sure you loosen all the dead skin, and rinse VERY thoroughly). All flaking/dandruff/dry/itchy scalp disappeared after I hennaed though. For oiling I recommend olive oil. That worked best for me.
Re: Itchy Scalp Anyone?
I have that exact same problem.... and my hair is still scabbed up in places from being burned by the perm. So I my scalp is in recovery mode. Some other curlies told me to add baking soda or brown sugar to my shampoo and/or condish when washing. Also, Apple Cider Vinegar rinses or tea tree oil diluted with a carrier oil and water- I was told help. I've been using tea tree oil, and it feels soothing to the scalp. I think it just may take a while for your hair to recover from the lye.

perhaps using aloe gel on your scalp would rectify this

Re: Itchy Scalp Anyone?
I use a mix of aloe vera gel, jojoba oil and a few drops of peppermint or tea tree oil. Works everytime.

Re: Itchy Scalp Anyone?
I had the same problem, pretty severe too. But I started using Extra Virgin Coconut oil and it all went away...I have yet to experience dry, flaking scalp and I even have ecsema (sp)
Re: Itchy Scalp Anyone?
My scalp has been on some other stuff lately, itching really bad and flaking. I finally busted out the shampoo the other day b/c I couldn't take it any more--- I think i'm going to start oiling my scalp with a sulfur treatment I got at the beauty store, it has petro at the end of the ingredient list, but I asssume it's not much since it is at the end. Hopefully it helps.
Re: Itchy Scalp Anyone?
I used to have itchy scalp and dandruff flakes but I deep conditioned with coconut oil overnight and put a bag over my head. I also did the same with Neem oil and got the same results even though I have only continued with coconut oil because Neem oil stinks and my DH hates the smell [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I did exactly what you suggested this past weekend and the difference was noticeable almost immediately. Usually by now DH has flakes forming again, but his scalp looks great and I am not trying to smack those flakes out of his locs. Thanks again!
Re: Itchy Scalp Anyone?
My scalp is itching, and I am doing my darndest not to scratch. I don't want flakes in my twists.
I am going to try some of the suggestions. I have not had a problem until recently. I am not co-washing as often, and the weather is cooler. I am trying to keep two strand twists in my hair for a week.
I have aloe vera gel, tea tree oil, EVOO, jojoba oil, extra virgin coconut oil and neem oil (stinky). I may try a mixture of aloe vera gel and coconut, tea tree and neem oils with lavender EO for smell.

I'd also reccomend Dr.Bronners Castille soap (peppermint and almond are my favorites) i swear by this stuff whenever i do wash.
Dr Bronner's Ingredients:

peppermint is good for itchy scalp and the others are great oils in general but i don't know how they do with itchy scalp..but I'm sure they wouldn't hurt
