Tender Spots Empty Tender Spots

Post by missmoriah 25th January 2010, 5:32 am

Hello Everyone, I just wanted to create this topic for maybe some help or suggestions. Sometimes when i co-wash or just moisturize my scalp I tend to massage my scalp, well lately its been really tender in different places. Like the slightest bit of pressure seams like im pulling my hair which isn't the case. It has not always been like that I think I noticed the tender spots after I started attempting finger coils for protective styles. But idk i could be wrong. I was just wondering is that coming from something I'm doing wrong or not doing at all? And can anyone relate? Thanks in Advance! Embarassed

I get tender spots when I experience a growth spurt and when I wear my hair in a style that it is not used to. It has been happening for years so I consider this normal for me.

Hi Missmoriahiscurly,

I get the same thing on my scalp. When I use to relax my hair the top of my scalp stayed tender to the touch. Since I haven't been relaxing (since April '09) I still notice some tenderness from time to time but nothing like before.

I notice my scalp gets a little tender if I sleep with a plastic cap when I'm doing a deep conditioner. I tried the baggy method where you moisterize then put on a plastic cap that made my scalp tender too. Not going to bed with my head wet and using mostly natural products has helped alot. My scalp still has tender moments, but nothing like before. I hope this helps.

@Tiashauntee, LOL! Well I sure hope I'm not experiencing a growth spurt seeing that im already 5'10. So maybe it was the finger coils because my head definitely is not used to the style.
@Ziggs, Yeah that does help, Thanks! Now that you mention it I think when I was relaxed I experienced some tenderness then too. Could it be from that??? Idk

LOL, sorry, I meant a hair growth spurt! I don't want one either, I don't feel like buying all new clothes just yet. Laughing

I also get sore spots every once in a while. I don't recall noticing them when I was relaxed, and it's been a few years so I don't think it's from that. I feel like I get two types of scalp tenderness. One I think is from manipulation, like making my hair go a different direction than it usually does or if I braid/twist too tight. But sometimes the sore spots are raised, so I assumed that they were ingrown new hairs or ...scalp zits? or something like that, having to do with some sort of blockage under the scalp. I haven't had any in a while, I'm guessing because I haven't been messing with my hair or regimen very much. HTH!

edited to say: I just realized that "scalp zits" is kindof a gross thing to say, sorry!
