Humidity and Natural Hair.
Ok ladies, being that I am new to transitioning (going on two weeks now), I applied chemicals to my hair September 14, 2009 for the last time!!!!!! I have two textures going on with my hair right now cause I refuse to do the BC. I am curious to know how some of you ladies natural hair holds up in the HUMIDITY. How do you keep your do's going strong and looking gorgeous in extreme climate change? I just moved from Detroit to Houston where it tends to get really hot and humid.

Re: Humidity and Natural Hair.
I used to HATE humidity. But since I have embraced my coils and love big hair, humidity has become my best friend.
When I have a style that I want to hold in place I like to use:
Frizz Controller (from Motowngirl)
Ingredients
1/2 cup conditioner
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon almond oil
The instructions for the recipe above include rinsing
I prefer:
2/3 cup of Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner
2 tsp Olive Oil
2 tsp Sweet Almond Oil
4 tsp Honey
Awesome natural holding power. For a firmer hold, add more honey.

Re: Humidity and Natural Hair.
proper moisture makes humidity a moot point.
weekly DTs, and styling with conditioners (not drying gels and mousses) saturates your curls with moisture. The saying, 'a wet sponge doesn't soak up any water' (okay, that's not a saying!), applies to our hair. If your hair is full of moisture, it won't seek to fill up on water from the atmosphere. That's where poofy, frizzy hair comes from--dry hair drinking up atmospheric moisture. So the answer is quench your hair's thirst before you leave the house. I've been in 100% humidity situations recently and my hair doesn't frizz. 2 years ago, when I was wash&going with gels, my hair would shrink and poof as soon as I hit the sidewalk.

So true! This has helped me a lot. Also, I do this before I go swimming.

Humidity used to by my enemy but now she and I are best friends. I no longer fear leaving the house with my curls anymore because I know humidity is going to be on my side and my curls will be fierce no matter what!
