Hey Nubie! Yup, I did the whole thing on my own! I was scared too, but I thought things would be ok when we got rain mid week and my ends in the back began to puff up... fortunately I was right!

Hey CC...
Just want to say congratulations on celebrating 1 year of healthy natural hair care. After 20 years of being natural and discovering that you were doing it all wrong...I would say after 1 year you did a very good job of learning all the right things to do . You hair is beautiful.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and wishing you a safe and blessed New Year!!!

Re: The Flexirod Adventures!
I posted my update on CocoEuro's challenge thread (Retain 3 inches in 6 months), and thought I'd share here too. I'll also give you curlies a "life" update soon as well!!!
My routine has remained pretty much consistent: "out" styles Friday and Saturday, PS's Monday-Thursday, and Sunday is the "reset" day. I've been shampooing biweekly and cowashing in between shampooing. So far my hair has responded well.
Now, the length check:
Side: 11/10/10
Side: 1/16/11
Front: 11/10/10
Front: Today
Back: 11/10/10
Back: Today
I can't get the exact pose on the back like last length check, but it looks basically the same to me. My front and sides however..... wowzas!!!!!
So far so good!

Hey Jome!!!!! Trust, your hair will grow! They say a watched pot never boils, and I'm finding that periodic length checks help me not to totally lose my mind!!! lol

Re: The Flexirod Adventures!
Hey ladies!
Haven't updated here in quite some time, so here goes:
**I've started a full time job doing AP work at an investment firm. Not exactly teaching, I know, but I am enjoying it so far. It's not helping that I work five minutes from an Ulta and a Sally's. Boy, I'm in trouble!
**Since I've began working, future financial plans/investments are being brought to the present. Stay tuned =)
**I recently got a gym membership. Since my last annual exam (Jan 2010, right after I got married), I put on some newlywed weight--well 20 pounds to be exact! I don't mind it at all, I was just sick of a sedintary lifestyle. I'm looking to tone and maintain my newfound curves =)
Ok, so you really want to know about the hair: I've gotten quite lazy since I started working about a month ago. I shampoo and deep condition every two weeks, put in twists/braids until the hair dries, and will wear the same twist/braidout for two weeks. Hey, it's been looking good so it works for me! Also, my longest hairs are now BRA STRAP LENGTH! YAY! Now the rest has to play catch up, but I'm really excited about that. Plus, I'm finding that when I'm not obsessing about length is when I get optimal results.
Here's my (ahem) twistout on day SIX (yup, yup). I'll update more of what I'm doing later!

Thanks ladies!!!!!
Some more updates:
1. After a month, I'm really enjoying working out. I actually get upset if I miss a scheduled gym visit, so I know it's really become engrained in my routine.
2. I've been contemplating becoming vegetarian. Or pescatarian--I really, REALLY like salmon. And shrimp. But I went three days without meat, then tried to eat a chilli dog... and about gagged.... so, I don't miss meat (well, red meat anyway) as much as I thought...
3. Ok, six day hair secrets revealed:
I actually enjoy the frizz factor now. I love the way my not-so-perfect curls look by day 4. By day 5, however, the frizz is "unruly" (that term is soooo subjective to me, but hey) that bossman starts giving me the side-eye. So, I'll actually put my twistout in braids, about 8 to be exact. I'll spritz with my AVJ/grapeseed oil spritz, add my styling product (lately it's been QB or this product line by Samy), braid, and take my butt to bed. Separate, fluff, and go in the morning!!!
On the Samy products: This line is called Escencia (sp?), and is cheap and works wonders for my hair! I bought the styling creme on a whim at a local drugstore that was going out of sale. Loved it so much, I ordered more of his line. For (ready for this) $25, I received a shampoo, conditioner, 2 styling cremes, a pomade, and a deep conditioner. Including shipping!!!!! Timing couldn't be more perfect, since I'm actually going to attempt a flexirod set this weekend (I had to buy $60 worth of flexirods, so I'd better, right?)
Here's a pic of my current twistout. It's day 4, and I put it in jumbo twists last night to preserve. But, when I preserve it this way (as opposed to braiding) I don't get as much definition. Notice anything different?? =)
