How does it hold up after the gym?
I want to flat iron but I go to the gym 4 times a week. Would it be a waste of time?
Yes. Between the humidity and the sweat, you're looking at a puff ball! Another reason why I may not straighten again, I need my workout time and straight hair gets in the way of that, imo.

Based upon horror stories I've heard on the boards, I was always hesitant to get my hair professionally flat-ironed and cut. But lately, my ends were feeling terrible, so I decided I needed a really good cut. She washed, conditioned, blow dried, cut, and flat ironed my hair. Overall she cut about 1.5 to 2 inches off. I am really happy with my cut and will have this done every 6m.
Regarding working out, she's instructed me to wear a high ponytail when working out. I'll let you guys know how my hair holds up after tomorrow .
did u cut hair previous to this salon visit, as i remember about a year ago you posted a pic of ur hair stretched to around your waist line?

Dajewel,
I was here in Sept 10 after giving myself a few trims:

Here in Dec 10 after my 3m challenge:

After the challenge, I started to see a lot of incomplete splits, so I was gradually giving myself trims. But my ends were still feeling dry and matted. So I decided to just have it professionally flat-ironed and cut.

Re: I decided to get my hair PROFESSIONALLY flat-ironed and CUT!!!
Hello Ladies,
I just got my hair professionally flat-ironed as well, yesterday actually...and my beautician of several years chopped of an inch of my relaxed hair. My last perm has been the end of December and since then I've been using Shea Moisture products and doing twist-outs and bantu-knots; not using no type of heat whatsoever.
I understand my transitioning process will take forever since my relaxed hair is to the middle of my back....I feel guilty for straightening my hair and I miss my curly look.
If I was to continue to get my hair flat-ironed, lets say once a month, if that...or every other month would it effect my transitioning process in any way?....getting it straightened will give me a break from having to do mess around w/it everyday; such a relief??????
But will putting heat on my natural hair damage it if I am only doing so once a month? ....PLEASE HELP, I'm new to this.lol.

Some recommend not using heat often during the transitioning process, especially since the point where the two textures meet can be particularly weak. Also, it's possible that the heat can change the texture that's growing out and loosen the curls. This may or may not happen but why take chances lol.

Re: I decided to get my hair PROFESSIONALLY flat-ironed and CUT!!!
Thanks again to everyone for the kind words. I really appreciate it
I found this link that I think can help you. I've been natural since Feb 9, 1998, and I never transitioned. Back then, I didn't know anything about transitioning and just assumed that you cut all of the perm off when wanting to go natural. So I went from a SL perm to a scalp cut in 1 sitting.

I would also agree regarding using heat as little as possible.
Thank you...And although I don't wear often, I definitely appreciate my fro
I got the measurement shirt from someone selling them on LHCF.com about 3yrs ago. Here is a link to some tees:
