Do you No-Poo or follow the Curly Girl Method?
I was doing some research on the Curly Girl Method and came across an interesting article on NPR on shampooing your hair less and some of the upsides to it. Just thought I'd share.

Re: Do you No-Poo or follow the Curly Girl Method?
I consider myself on a low poo regimen. Shampoo is extremely drying to my hair even when I dilute it and causes to many tangles. So for the past month or so I haven't used shampoo. I've been co-washing with conditioner, started using shampoo bars again and I am using betonite clay and acv rinses to remove any buildup.
I've just started this regimen so I will see how it will all play out. I'm not giving up shampoo entirely but I plan to only use it once every 3-4 months.

Interesting. After reading KC's post about shampoo causing tangles I realized I was having the same problem. When I co-wash- I don't have the tangles but with shampoos- I do. Now I have been using the Curls cleanser which seems to be a little better but I'm phasing that out too. Going to give the bentonite clay a shot this week!

I very rarely shampoo! Sasha loves the conditioners!

I use Aubrey Organics Shampoos. Wash day is once a week -10 days in the winter and sometimes twice a week during the warmer months. Co-washing did not agree with my scalp. Washing in sections and not leaving my hair loose for extended periods of time has helped me avoid tangles.

I've noticed when I would shampoo I always had more tangles too so I stopped all together.. I hardly use shampoo to clarify.. I use this product from HV called Alma Cream rinse is gently cleanses the hair so you can be ready for that co-wash.. I use a lot of gels. This product actually makes my hair soft and ready for the co-wash.. Its a must have for me now....

I use Devacurl No Poo shampoo. It's non-lathering and is the consistency of a creamy conditioner. I tried co-washing once, but I didn't like the buildup when I styled my hair. A curly girl at Trade Secret recommended the no poo for me and I never looked back. It cleansed my hair just right. I recently purchased the Low Poo shampoo for times when I feel I need extra cleansing.

I Poo Bar all the time, but it's not a clarifyer, so to me it's almost like co-washing, espcially the coconut conditioner bar from chagrin valley.
I do like DevaCurl No Poo and Low Poo, they are great on my hair.
When ever I need to clarify, maybe once a month or once every other month I just use Garnier Length and Strength, I was put on to this by the owner of a great natural company that we all know and love, but was telling me to try this one out before using her products for the first time. No it's in my arsenal when something bad happens to my hair and I want to start over.

I agree with Krazycoils as well I havent been using the shampoo as much either I plan to use it maybe every 3 months but I have been cowashing weekly & that seems to work wonders for my hair

i HAVE to shampoo....at least once a week. i do use sulfate free shampoo...and clarify about once a month. my hair is just fine, and my scalp feels refreshed. i don't like dirt and buildup and feel like just like my body needs a good clean scrubbing so does my hair and scalp...
