Black Tea Rinse Challenge
Hey chicas! Who would like to join in on a black tea rinse challenge? My hair doesn't care for protein and I don't have the time for lengthy henna sessions. So I'm opting for black tea rinses instead. I plan to add this rinse to my regimen for the next few months [at least 'till Spring & beyond if it works] in an effort achieve stronger hair. I've researched the topic extensively and I'm ready to try it.
how it works: the caffeine inhibits DHT (dihydrotestosterone, which is derived from testosterone) that causes hair follicles to shrink and eventually stop producing hair. DHT is one [of many possible culprits] that cause excessive shedding/hair loss.
Wanna give it a shot with me? cheers

I want to know at what part of your regimen are you using the black tea? I've read where people use it before they DC or use it as a final rinse.
Oh, and measurements?

i poured it on [slowly to saturate] right before DCing, then applied my DC mix [condish, oils, AVJ]. let it sit 30 mins or so then rinsed. i used 2.5 cups of water and 3 tea bags. i didn't want to [waste] make a huge pot of tea, since most of it runs down your hair and into the drain when you pour it over your head anyway. so i made up just enough to coat the scalp and hair.

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
I am going to try this one this weekend! I already made up my black tea mix. My hair goes through phases. Right now it is in a shedding phase. I don't want that to interfere with me retaining length! I will check back in after I do it
Thanks for this challenge! I love tea!

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
Hey yall! I did not start this week. It was a "Man Down Situation", ha ha just saw Frankie on tv. This week my baby and I had horrible colds. I will add the tea rinse to my regimen on next Saturday. For my tea rinse, I will use 3 bags and 3 cups water before DC. I am going to do this until the spring. Anything to combat the post partum shedding.
Will keep ya posted.

Hello Ladies
I've been following this challenge. I admit to being a PJ but I have a lot of teas in my cupboard so I can try this without buying anything.
Has anybody considered infusing oil with tea and using that on your hair and scalp? I'm going to try that today for an oil rinse/prepoo. Its shampoo day for me. I'll let you all know my results.

I am going to take the dry tea (I have loose earl grey and a loose black with lemon peel), cover it with oil (cocoa butter, olive, jojoba and Smart Balance oil). Put it in a oven safe dish, place in an 170 oven for 2 to 3 hours. I'll check on it regular to make sure its not burning, but that should yield a nice oil infusion. Just like herb infusions for cooking.

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
Anyone know how long you have to do a black tea rinse to start seeing results? I did one last Saturday. (5 days ago) and then I twisted my hair. I am going to wear a twist out the next two days and see how it does when I was again on Satuday (7th day). I am going to do the black tea rinse again

Okay, I've finished infusing the oil. The final oil is dark green and smells like strong tea, kind of green. So I added a couple of drops of Bitter Orange Orchid fragrance oil. It smells wonderful. I'm going to massage my scalp with it tonight and wash as as normal. I might put a tiny bit on my scalp after the wash too. Crossing my fingers that this is something good.

Re: Black Tea Rinse Challenge
Hey Madeaj.. i actually mix mine last night couldn't wait since it is my hair washing weekend thought i get started right away. I used 3 bags of black tea mix with EVOO and i put it on the stove for about 5-15 minutes then put it ina bottle to infuse some more.
The only thing i have to figure out now is how to get the oil in my hair without the leaves...they are so small. Anyway i am going to start using it right away.

The tea I used had big leaves, I used a fine mesh strainer I got from the Dollar Tree. I the dollar tree because everything is.....A Dollar!
I used last night and it felt great. The scent under the hot water reminded me of henna. But I like the smell of henna. My hair has a nice sheen today and feels moisturized. I don't think I will use it as a leave in, the scent is too strong for me to tolerate for very long.
