Re: When is it too cold for glycerin?
i have not used glycerin yet (I am waiting for the summer, just to be safe). but i my understanding is that its effects during winter are more related to humidity levels than the temperature. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in on the specifics?
Glycerin and weather
It has more to do with dew points than temperature. Be cautious of using it in dry, arid areas as well as wet areas. The ideal dew point from what I recall is 40. You could mix it with a moisturizing product and/or oil to combat the problems of using glycerin alone when the dews are low or high.

@ChrsLvsBks,
Thanks for that info. I live in NY near the ocean and I've mixed my glycerin with water and essential oils. Is this ok for me to use if I continue to follow with a sealant? What would you recommend as an alternative moisturizer? I use braid sprays also.

Hi, Hamptonfnst. I would say to use it to see if you experience dryness, if not, I do not see any problem using what works for you. The water, glycern and oils mixture sounds like it would seal your hair. You may not need to seal after using it. I like thick creamy moisturizers. I typically moisturize with a butter or cream. I like Jane Carter's nourish and shine (butters and oils), shea butter mixed with jojoba and coconut oils, Karen's Body Beautiful's butter and cream and Koils by Nature (local DC business).
If others have suggestions, please feel free. I am relatively new to product ingredients and their uses, benefits, etc. I have read a lot and know a little.
