Protective styling for in-between length Empty Protective styling for in-between length

Post by Ni'Cole 21st December 2010, 5:41 am

Hello all I'm fairly new for the forums and one of my chief reason for finally signing up was I'm going crazy trying to figure out what to do with my in-between hair. Im not really a TWA anymore but my hair isn't very long. The style I rely on most is two-strand twist because I'm not much of a "hair-doer" the problem is that my twist aren't long enough to pin or manipulate into a wearable style. So I'm at a total lost for protective styling... can someone anyone PLEASE help!

I think I may have to consider some kind of weave style like kinky twist or braids. scratch

Have you tried finger coils? Check out youtube for finger coil styles. Also flat twists are another style that work for hair at this length.

I understand your pain I am in that stage as well as Krazy said finger coil styles would be an option
I had my girlfriend cornrow my hair into a style so that could also be an options as well Maybe add some hair for the style to last longer

yeah, corn rows, flat twists, afro puff twist-out....don't feel like you HAVE to resort to weaving just to have a cute style. Because if not done right or done too tight or whatever that can cause damage.

I'm going through the same thing. I love my two strand twist, but they aren't long enough to pin up and look right. I have done the finger coils when my hair was TWA i'm not to sure what they will look like now. I have search youtub, but most of the styles the ladies hair is longer than mine. Its hard when you are in between lengths. And like you, I dont want to wear weaves ( i'm not a fan).

Does it count as a protective style if your hair is in 2 strands twist but not pined up?

Thanks for all you help ladies!

Hey NapturallyKi. Yes it counts as a protective style. PSs don't necessarily have to be an "up" style for it to be considered a PS. However, part of it does include keeping your ends hidden but because they are twisted they are not fully out in the open. Twists and braids are two of the most common PSs I guess because they are the easiest.

I'm with you on the inbetween length. The fact that my hair is fine makes it all the more difficult to not look crazy with twists. I do twist and let them stay in for a few days (days when I'm not really going anywhere. If I go out I wear a hat). Then I loosen the twists one time and pin them up. So it's a pinned up twist out. My ends are protected. Here's a link to my CurlStreet Journal where I posted a picture. It's not gorgeous, but it's protected and easy. At this point it's the only thing I can do. I was going to get Kinky Twist but I'm concerned about the weight of them on the fragile areas of my head. I don't want hair loss trying to PS.
