Maintaining Length
I dyed my hair back in August and the new growth is amazing, however my hair does not feel any longer. For a while I was content with my length and happy with what I had. Now I want to see how long I can get it but since my hair doesn't appear to be any longer I know that I am not maintaining the length when it grows.
Any suggestions?
This is where I was in August:

I will doing another check possibly tomorrow.

Re: Maintaining Length
I can't really tell a difference in length. To be quite honest, it looks the same in both pics with the exception of being less poofy in the the "after trim" pic. Are you talking about the width? If so, I know firsthand that a good trim will allow your hair to hang better and in that sense yes I can tell a difference.

Re: Maintaining Length
I saw in another post that you prefer shrinkage in your twists to keep it off of your shoulders, that helps. You have to make sure to keep those ends from coming into contact with anything (clothes, scarves, coat, pillowcases). Maybe you should try bunning for a while or a few days out of the week?

Those pics were on the same day. I am going to take another one tomorrow to see how much it has grown since August.

This is the most recent length comparison. It's not that good because I didn't blow dry my hair as straight as I did back in August, plus.......the comb broke, LOL. My hair is so thick! No hair came out so it's all good. I have broken many a combs in my day, LOL.

Re: Maintaining Length
hey tia---have you heard of the "baggy method"?(moisturizing, sealing, and covering hair with plastic)
I put my hair in 4 bantu knots (or 4 big twists bunned) at night, after moisturizing and sealing w/ oil, then covered each w/ plastic baggies and my ends stayed moisturized, healthy and I maintained growth during the months I did so.
Also I agree w/ Mz Bush about wearing protective styles as much as possible.

Yes, I used to do that. I need to figure out a way to do it now that it's getting cold.

Do any of you take hair vitamins? If so, what kind, and did they work?

You know what, I heard that was a good hair vitamin. A lot of people have told me that it really makes your hair grow! I think Im going to start taking them...trying to get more length! I figure with all the new stuff that Im doing to my hair as well as these henna treatments Im about to be doing, hopefully I'll see a major growth spurt!

I take Biotin (2000-3000 mcg) for hair growth. It's a B complex vitamin that is great for hair, skin and nails. I've heard great things about it. Now when I start taking it consistently, I'll let you know how it works.
Coincidentally, my friend actually pulled a chunk of hair out of her head removing a weave and was left with a bald spot. I told her about the Biotin I was taking to help my hair grow longer faster. She went to the dermatologist to make sure her situation wasn't serious and the dermatologist also recommended Biotin for hair growth.
Re: Maintaining Length
@jamaicacurl Yeah I've heard that Biotin is the key ingredient in hair growth! I was thinking about getting those Shin Men vitamins, as I've heard a lot of people saying that they are really good! I just want to take something to help my hair internally, ya know! But I may have to go ahead and get just the Biotin! Let me know how your results turn out!
