After reading the post that someone had posted about how much petroleum we eat and and poisons and chapstick or whatever. I decided to get rid of mine and make my own. Here is what I did:
1. Dug out as much chapstick as possible using a q-tip
2. Boiled that chapstick container and lid until all chapstick was out.
3. Melted 6 ml of cocoa butter (for the base since it is a hard solid)
4. Added some virgin coconut oil (for shine)
5. Some Vit e for moisture (two drops from the gel filled pill)
6. 2 drops of jojoba
7. Mixed it up.
8. Used one of those medicine droppers (like the ones that come with tylenol) and sucked the oil mixture in it and slowly squirted it into the old chapstick container. The container held about 4.5 milliliters of oil. I let it sit on the counter for 3 hours and then put it in the fridge. I was too excited to use it!

I tried to use it when I got it out of the fridge but it was too hard. When it warmed up to room temp. You could use the twisty at the bottom and twsit it up. YAY! IT WORKED! HOMEMADE LIP BALM! cheers woot!

I love finding recipes!

I've used the fresh tubes from here. I especially like the ones for lotion bars. I mix my butters with cocoa butter to make them solid and pour into a lotion tube. Makes it easy to apply and not get all over your hands. I'm going to try your recipe.

Hey great site! Thank you! My recipe is not perfect yet. I think I added too much coconut oil even though it was 1/8 of a teaspoon. I did find out this morning when I reapplied it that I do not have to rub as hard to get it on my lips like the regular chapstick. This stuff melts at body temp so I was smashing it on my lips and that was the problem! So I think I will keep the coconut oil amount the same. It acutally came out being 3.9 ounces of oil solution to put in the tubes. Do you have any recipes?

I used this recipe with good results. I even added a little color to a little bit for a color lip balm.

Wow, you guys have just made my morning! Thanks for the recipes and the tube and jars website. I'm getting ready to get it in with my own special recipe lip balms. How cool is this!
