Can Henna cause super itchy scalp/dandruff???
Since I henna'd my hair last Saturday I have noticed that my scalp has been developing scabby build ups. I don't know if it's build up from my scalp or build up from the oil I apply but either way it's annoying as hell and my scalp has severe dandruff, like I have not seen in forever!!!! It's all over but seems heavier around the hairline. This is so random and I can't help but wonder, did my scalp have a reaction to the henna???? Has this ever happened to any of you henna heads??? Please advise. Do I not need to henna anymore???

Sounds like you may have had a reaction? did you do a patch test first?
And it may also depend on what you used to get the dye to release (if any)...if you used something like lemon juice or ACV, it's too acidic to leave on your scalp for long especially after freshly washing your hair which removes the outmost layer of skin (dead skin cells) while you're scrubbing with your fingers.
If you didn't use something as acidic as Lemon Juice or ACV...my guess is you've have a reaction to the henna
only thing that happens to me when I henna is my scalp feel tight for the following week. but I guess that's normal as henna is an astringent.

That itching happened to me when I first hennaed with lemon juice. I used Nizoral shampoo http://nizoral.com and that stopped the itching. That was the only thing that worked for me. There are many substitutions for lemon juice (e.g., orange juice, green tea, red zinger, apple juice, coffee). I had a little itching yesterday after my henna, but conditioned, then did a quick shampoo and conditioned and the itching was gone.misskris wrote:Since I henna'd my hair last Saturday I have noticed that my scalp has been developing scabby build ups. yeah it was probably the lemon then...i used lemon the very first time I henna'd and it TOOOORE MY SCALP UP! I had scabs all over my head. From the second henna, I started using African Red Rooibos Tea... i've been good ever since. Curly Nikki uses green tea I beleive. Most any tea will work and it won't f*ck up your scalp. Many girls even use coffee but I'm too afraid to try it with coffee because I'm afraid it will influence the color results.
and for the scabs...just gently rub a little olive oil on your scalp every night with your fingertips...it'll be healed it no time

Thanks Pretty_Vee. Those scabs are pretty much gone. It's mainly the dandruff left but it's BAD dandruff. I JUST now cowashed and re-oiled my scalp with castor and I added some tea tree oil. It feels pretty good for now. Next time I will use the tea. That's what I SAID I was gonna use the last time but instead decided to follow the instructions provided by the company I bought the henna from. Next time, nothing harsh. Just tea (probably green or black), and honey. Some people add oil but I read that oil makes the henna not color as well.
Thanks Ladies. Glad my scalp didn't burn off!!!! LOL Well......I guess it kinda did in a way!!!!
